A ton of respect for coach Shondell. Great ambassador of the game. Our first trip to West Lafayette after joining the B1G was there senior night. During the pregame ceremony for his seniors, he spent five minutes welcoming NU to the conference, congratulating our seniors, and praised Nebraska's many accomplishments and the contributions Nebraska and coach Cook has made to grow the sport. Much respect.

Justine was so good it is just hard to believe that the Nat. team had so many questions about the Libero position for so long. Two things. It wasn’t much of a “gamble” to recruit JWO. She had a lot of options coming out of high school and NE was fortunate to get her. That said, everyone had questions about JWO initially and with good reason. She wasn’t good, at all!! It took her a while to catch up to the speed of the international game. It’s safe to say she’s caught up now!! She was SPECTACULAR in the Olympics!! So much so that Paul Sunderland said best ever.

Cook and Justine have both said that NE was the only school to offer her a scholarship and it was late in the game (fall of 2012). Wow, what a sports story, unbelievable. I have always liked Justine and she just keeps getting better.

Because this is the first Olympic indoor volleyball gold medal for a US women’s team, and because Larson has been such a prominent member of the USNT for the past decade, Larson will be honored in some manner in the Devaney Center. But I believe if a statue is the option Robinson and Wong-Oranges will be included in that statue. I doubt Larson would want a statue of herself nor would that kind of statue be in keeping with the team aspect our coaches have preached for 45 years. All 3 left their mark on Nebraska volleyball and now all three have forever left their mark on the 🏐USNT. I expect Larson’s name to be attached to something in the Devaney Center. If you want to be cynical you can say a Larson-Robinson-Orantes statue will also be a recruiting bonanza, and it will be. 🏐 There won’t be a statue. She’s brilliant, everyone recognizes her greatness, but they have a bronze statue which celebrates all that is Nebraska Volleyball, singling out one individual isn’t how they do things. Disagree on the statue. . .there will be a statute of all 3 of the ex-Nebraska players who just won the gold. . . It may even include Tyler for running the beach program and winning the beach gold. The statue will not just signify the programs contribution to winning the first indoor Olympic gold, but solidify Nebraska as the primary source for winning that gold and a path to make Olympic dreams come true. Recruiting gold mine for recruits and subtle reminder to all opponents and their fans. This is a great opportunity for the program. . . Cook doesn’t miss these opportunities. . .

So a 2 year assistant coach is going to get a statue for being the coordinator of beach volleyball? C’mon now. Nebraska already has a designated display of olympians and professional players, Larson’s jersey was retired and she’s been celebrated and acknowledged plenty. Marlene Ottey ran track at Nebraska and went on to win 9 Olympic medals and doesn’t have a statue.

She is considered the greatest of all time and a homegrown Nebraska girl who has inspired thousands of young women in Nebraska to play volleyball. She is the pinnacle of what anyone who loves the game dreams of. I think that’s a big deal. As a Nebraska fan, yes, I think they need to do more.

Marlene Ottey ran track at Nebraska and went on to win 9 Olympic medals and doesn’t have a statue. …to the victor goes the spoils The 3 former Nebraska AAs (Larson-Oranges-Robinson) were part of the US team who just won the first gold🥇for this country in indoor volleyball. I chuckle, that based on the various statues that adorn the athletic venues on the UNL campus, that a statue honoring them isn’t a given. I believe it is. The value of this gold🏅 to Nebraska volleyball can not be calculated. As for this lowly 2 year assistant Hildebrand. . . Lmao.. . He came here in 2017 as part of 2 new assistants in the post Rolfson’s era (rebuilding year). . . and won a national championship. In Tokyo the first coach mentioned by Alix Klineman 5 minutes after she and April Ross won the gold was Hildebrand. I really don’t think you understand his contribution to US beach VB since 2018. Anyway, the real point about Tyler is more about where he is going to where he has been. I don’t believe Cook will stop coaching until after Rose does, but when he does I don’t believe there will be a long discussion before Hildebrand is named as the next head coach. Pettit was a great volleyball coach at Nebraska and without him, we would probably be like Kansas volleyball, and Nebraska HS volleyball would be ok. But not what it is. And John Cook took what Pettit had done and stepped on the gas pedal even more. Nebraska HS volleyball is as good as anywhere in this country. John Cook is a great coach, he is a great coaches coach-the club coaches in this state are a reflection of that. These club coaches are producing players who are as good as any in the country. Cook’s legacy is monumental . . . But the best volleyball mind who as ever stepped into the Devaney is Hildebrand. His players will tell you that. National team players will tell you that. And the high school players he works with will tell you that. My guess is that on one side of the Devaney will be statue honoring Nebraska volleyball’s contribution to US volleyball and on the other will be a statue of Cook after he steps down. Marlene Ottey never won a gold. . . Not one

Tyler is a wonderful coach and person, but you’ve got him on a statue with Pettit and Cook and well that’s insane.

Fans never flock around it and take pictures with it. . .? You might want to start entering the Devaney on the east side (delivery entrance) so you won’t have to walk by these “silly” volleyball statues. (They will be a reality) sorry 5 days ago Jordan Larson was considered a great player whose career was about to end. She was always included when people talked about the best players of the past ten or 15 years. . . But never really in the conversation about being the best player all-time. . . Like Logan Tom, Regla Torres, Lang Ping or Fabiana Alvin, but now she is. Leading her country to an Olympic gold medal has increased the way people look at Jordan Larson and her career. Winning the Olympics is a big thing. . . having 3 players on the 12 member squad, 2 of which were on the all tournament team, is a big deal for Nebraska volleyball. These are accomplishments that won’t be hidden behind a glass shelf. . . #statue and sorry…Ottey was a great student at Nebraska, a great track athlete at Nebraska, and represented her country in 7 Olympic Games. . . but sorry, she never won a gold. …never won a gold. . . Maybe we

I think something more could be done for the gold medal Huskers. I don't know what - but something and there are creative people at the University who know how to recognize and celebrate champions and their great qualities (Alot of champions at Nebraska - past and present - and in the making). The USA Volleyball Team's historic gold medal was for the USA (first ever gold). The Nebraska program can be so proud that they had a huge role in the development of these great players. You could see from the floor leadership of Jordan and Justine that they were Husker stars. When Kelsey played it was the same. Huskers play with so much heart and determination - look at our current Huskers. The entire Olympic tourney was great but those last two sweeps of two top teams was incredible. You could see the looks on the players from Serbia and Brazil when they realized they had no answer for Jordan and when JWO dug many many amazing shots. Go USA!! and GBR!!

I have no doubt they will honor the three of them at a match, and will no doubt have a highlighted display somewhere in Devaney.
