The streaming service is only good if your team happens to be on the side of the camera, otherwise it is no bueno. Also, you can not use the streaming footage for recruiting video as you are not able to download and edit it. Been to a couple qualifiers already and space was not an issue, so not sure why it would be a requirement to stay seated and not have a tripod. I do have a monopod and could use it, but it is not as steady and is less than ideal for filming (especially if you have to use it while seated; low angle). Crossroads has been a great qualifier in the past; very competitive and my DD and I have enjoyed attending. If you can view video on your computer screen, you can record it to your hard drive. Whether that violates the terms of a particular streaming provider is between you and them. Numerous options exist to save video onto your computer from all sorts of sources that want to limit your access, but at some point it has to be displayed on your screen. Whether that means using screen capture software to literally record what your computer is displaying or whether you're downloading a stream using info you dug out in the "developer tools" in chrome or similar options in firefox. A good avenue to pursue but it doesn't address the issue of video quality. The nice thing about a tripod is that it's pretty much hands free. Being on the end line of your particular team gives you the best camera angle to view footage, more so than being on the side where parents sit. IMO

Tripod location and video streaming quality aside, if you go to the Crossroads site, they are offering the ability to download your teams video's (extra $39.99 for all of them, $19.99 for three or self service with your $49.99 weekend streaming fee). www.crossroadslivestream.com/It's in their FAQ section Will Games be recorded? How does video on demand work? Yes! Every game at Crossroads 2021 will be recorded and available through our Video on Demand service. Fill out the form above and one of our customer service reps will reach out to confirm your order, then provide you with a secure link to access your requested game videos. There are 3 choices for VOD: Premium - All of your kid's games for $39.99; Select - Choose 3 games for $19.99; Self-Service - Free w/ purchase of Live Stream subscription. Now, will this be Baller TV quality, or will they have cameras on each side of the court, who knows. Crossroads appears to be doing this by themselves, so I don't think this is a re-branded Baller TV production.

I am beginning to think this is a trial balloon for big events just outright banning parents/teams from doing their own filming in the future. Requiring parents to purchase match video from an official vendor is a massive revenue stream.

Funny that the biggest complaint it we can't have tripods. The OP clearly wants to go down swinging, but the fact that you think that these rules are for greed purposes is just plain ignorant. The event is not going to make money at all this year. Not even close. Ive dealt with cities and counties this year trying to run events. The requirements they put in place do not always seem to make sense. But in order to run an event they must follow those guidelines. Plus the event is on the city/state's timeline, not their own. they can change things at any time, and the event has no recourse. How is limiting attendance "greedy". Would't they rather have more spectators at $35 a piece plus the hotel rooms? You think getting a small piece of the $50 streaming income makes up for it? And FYI, every event that is streamed by a service can stop people from streaming or recording matches. Part of the agreement between the streaming service and the event is the exclusive right to stream the events. it probably won't happen, and would be impossible to enforce, but they do have that right. The convention center was free. Zero dollars. How do you not make money on that?

I will also say, if it's like Baller and they are only filming from one side, there is a way to almost guarantee your kids are on the video side. All season, my sons team had been doing the whole get there early thing and make sure they got on the court first and claim the side with the Baller TV camera. That worked almost every time this year until the last game on day 1 of their last tournament. We arrived first, got all setup on the Baller side, and at the coin toss, we won and chose the serve like 99% of the teams will do. Their kid smiled and said fine, we want that side and made us move. So if being on the camera side is that important to your kids, just make sure they choose it during the coin toss. If you win the coin toss, you choose the side. If you lose the coin toss, you still get to choose the side because 99% of the teams are going to choose serve.

But most (?) clubs have hudl for recruiting and stats; and a single parent sitting or standing facebook to friends! It is curious why no tripod or standing to video on your end of court? Presume not changing sides at USAV events!?

They'll take it just like they take paying $1000s a year for club, having to use THS, and paying $100 a weekend just for a pass to watch their kid play. In five years people won't even remember when you could film your own kid at a qualifier. My only complaint is I wish I'd thought of it first.

So whatever side you start on is where you play the entire game. Honestly, as a filming parent, I really like it and will miss it next year when things go back to normal and I'm dragging the tripod back and forth between sets. We still record all our games for Hudl and do lower quality streams to Facebook for our parents that aren't able to attend. So there are always a couple of tripods at the end of the court for my sons team. But in the case of Crossroads, no tripods are allowed. You had a similar situation at the Dennis Lafata Boys Bid Classic tournament in St Louis earlier this year. While tri-pods were probably allowed, no parents were allowed. So unless you had a coach that could setup the tri-pod and start the recording, you were stuck with Baller TV for that tournament. So in that case, the side you chose made a big difference for the quality of the video you were able to see.

So colorado is essentially not allowing a team to video their own team for stats or team scout abilities (hudl)

We use HUDL and also then have the footage from the game play as well, so people have only 8-12 minutes of footage to edit highlights from (vs an hour or so without the edits).

In five years people won't even remember when you could film your own kid at a qualifier. My only complaint is I wish I'd thought of it first. Interesting take. Did/do you have children playing Jr. vball currently? From my perspective, taking away the experiential nature and the involvement would diminish the demand for club sports in general, as parents pay for that experience. Demand at the 15 and under levels is pretty high (I think our club has 8-10, 15s teams, but 16u and up have 3 or less teams.) While volleyball is not cheap, it is not nearly the most expensive club sport by a long shot.
Most teams are Local or Regional teams and are not that expensive, with admission to the venues from free to $5 and no travel tourneys (that is for SoCal area). By the time you get to 16u up, most kids that are not at the Elite level have moved on to other interests, so participation in the Tourneys is showcasing how teams/individuals play in the most competitive environment. This club year, since D1 scouts have not been able to attend to evaluate players, all PSAs have is video options to send to schools for consideration.
Plus, do not forget the basic economics in a demand economy. People only buy products that fulfill a need. Take away the buyers satisfaction and they will not buy the product; give the people what they want. Of course, i could be wrong =)
