I'm not putting the blame for everything on Crossroads. No idea what the state or convention center told them the maximum occupancy was. But parents on the team had bought tickets. Clubs had bought tickets for their coaches. After the deadline to withdraw: Only one parent per player (max 12), only two coaches per team. Stringent COVID testing requirements to be conducted by a company who can't actually administer the test. And a lobby that can apparently be filled with people although the playing area can't. Seems extreme to me even for a democratic state. To add insult to injury, you can't get your own quality video of your team for recruiting or teaching and they are forcing the parents that can't get in to pay $50 each to watch a stream from an untested source that will likely be full of issues. And, true to form, they aren't even attempting to make apologies, or sound like they wish they could do more.
They have sucked all the fun out of this event. We won't be back. There are a bunch more friendly qualifiers to choose from.

I sincerely wish you the best of luck as you navigate all of this!

SEVB. I did NOT complain about the limit on spectators & coaches. I complained that we are informed of it after the deadline to withdraw. I complained that we were told no standing and no tripods after the deadline to withdraw. The rest of your post (while technically impressive) doesn't really address the issues I have. No tripods and NO standing means you can't record your team except from a crappy angle. The gym will be empty because no one is allowed in unless they are playing or reffing. They moved several divisions to the following weekend which means there will be a ton of available space. Is forcing us to use a streaming service of their own a money grab to help replace lost revenue from admissions? Of Course. But they waited to tell us EVERYTHING until after the deadline. I am sorry they aren't going to net their $1 million dollars in admission and hotel kickbacks this year. Hopefully they have insurance or, since they are a foundation, have a lot of that left in the bank from the previous highly profitable years. Name a SINGLE large event that happened in the last few months that prohibited parents from standing.
You clearly want to win this argument because you are somehow involved with events, or event setup. But I hope you can acknowledge that my issues are with the timing of everything. They get to make their own rules. We don't like them. They didn't tell us the new rules until it was too late to change our minds. It's that simple. We won't be back.

By presenting ideas that you may not have considered? Just pull your teams... I’m sure they have a waiting list... I literally said that you made some fair points... “They” are living in a world of constant pivot right now... not only do I not know the ppl running this event... I haven’t been in over a decade... I literally have no dog in the fight... other than to present points to make you consider that “they hate us and did this on purpose those greedy money lovers”... do you do your job for free? You hold all the cards... come or don’t; return or don’t; stream or don’t... if your DD goes and enjoys herself in spite of your insistence on choosing rage on restrictions then maybe the restrictions aren’t the issue.

And I should note... that it doesn’t take being involved running events to look around at some region pages, event pages, or the sanctioning body pages to see that the majority of ppl speaking out are doing so negatively... these athletes are getting the option to play... maybe what you meant to say was “thanks”... I came up with that at my stay at a Holiday Inn Express... make sure that whoever goes to this event makes sure to take out all their frustration and displeasure on the ppl there providing that opportunity... or they could just stay home...

Funny that the biggest complaint it we can't have tripods.
The OP clearly wants to go down swinging, but the fact that you think that these rules are for greed purposes is just plain ignorant. The event is not going to make money at all this year. Not even close.
Ive dealt with cities and counties this year trying to run events. The requirements they put in place do not always seem to make sense. But in order to run an event they must follow those guidelines. Plus the event is on the city/state's timeline, not their own. they can change things at any time, and the event has no recourse.
How is limiting attendance "greedy". Would't they rather have more spectators at $35 a piece plus the hotel rooms? You think getting a small piece of the $50 streaming income makes up for it?
And FYI, every event that is streamed by a service can stop people from streaming or recording matches. Part of the agreement between the streaming service and the event is the exclusive right to stream the events. it probably won't happen, and would be impossible to enforce, but they do have that right.

The only part that I found greedy is that they added new restrictions and didn’t offer a refund if that changed a team’s desire to attend. As somebody who helps with team registrations for a club, this has not been the norm. Things have come up, tournaments have had to pivot and change attendance policies, formats, etc. But the events I dealt with (including large convention center everts) were understanding and at least offered tournament credit if a change in their policy made a team not want to go. Although that’s under the assumption there was a change in policy. Are we sure the club just didn’t miss the fine print when they initially registered?

Why won't the event make money this year? How much lower are entries compared to other years? Is it just because of the lost revenue from limiting tickets? Genuine question.

The streaming service is only good if your team happens to be on the side of the camera, otherwise it is no bueno. Also, you can not use the streaming footage for recruiting video as you are not able to download and edit it. Been to a couple qualifiers already and space was not an issue, so not sure why it would be a requirement to stay seated and not have a tripod. I do have a monopod and could use it, but it is not as steady and is less than ideal for filming (especially if you have to use it while seated; low angle). Crossroads has been a great qualifier in the past; very competitive and my DD and I have enjoyed attending.

My experience is that expenses are higher this year. Many things required for the event are costing more. Where social distancing is an issue (like Colorado) you are fitting less courts into the same amount of space. Yet the convention center is charging the same. Looks to me like their registrations are way down. I didn’t check every age group, but some that had 90+ in 2019 have 50ish in 2021. Contributions from Visitor bureaus are down as well. They haven’t had any income in a year in some cities. And the lack of attendance hurts as well. 15 less people per team at $35 or $40 a person adds up quickly. Plus less spectators and teams mean less hotel rooms means lower rebates and comped rooms.

Whether that violates the terms of a particular streaming provider is between you and them. Numerous options exist to save video onto your computer from all sorts of sources that want to limit your access, but at some point it has to be displayed on your screen. Whether that means using screen capture software to literally record what your computer is displaying or whether you're downloading a stream using info you dug out in the "developer tools" in chrome or similar options in firefox.

If that's still the case in 2021 and they're losing money, I wonder why they'd hold the event at all.
