Talita/Maria pull out the third set 22-20. Good showing from Sara and Emily, though! All the CQ losses to Slaes aren't looking as bad these days, either. (The Cannon/Reeves one was still pretty bad, though.) They will play Liliana/Elsa in their do-or-die match, who lost in three to Borger/Sude. I think they have a better chance against Lili/Elsa rather than Borger/Sude. Hope they make it out of pool!

😱 and this isn’t even Spain 1. And Stam/Schoon lost to the other Dutch team so MHPavs will get another look a team in their Olympic pool. Lol this is funny. Mappelink/Keizer are actually training mates with the young Dutch girls and were rooting extremely hard for them during the Continental Qualifiers.

Stockolinske go down in 3 to Tillmann/Laboureur.
T2 is the only team who won their pool play match so far.

Rare communication error for the McNamaras when they let a free ball drop between them on match point. Latvia wins 17-15 in the third.

I don’t know if the McNamaras will ever be an elite FIVB team, but they’ve greatly exceeded my expectations and are on the cusp of being a consistent main draw team. Aside from one year of Claes/Hughes, no other NCAA pairing has been able to translate their college success to the international pro level. Still think they’d be better off breaking up and becoming full time defenders, but they’ve made it work pretty well split blocking and are a lot of fun to watch.

MHPavs lose in straight sets. Not the leadup to Tokyo they were looking for so far. 😱 and this isn’t even Spain 1. Le sigh. MHPavs continue to look so shaky. Maybe this is their level of play now moving forward.

Guys let calm down. Dudatha previously went 1-1 in pool play and reached the semifinals. MHPavs still have another chance tomorrow.
(Easy for me to say since none of my teams are playing in Gstaad. For once I can follow the tournament less closely and not as stressed. 🤗)

There are not enough high-quality blockers in Canada right now available to pair up with each of them. After Pavan and Brandie... Nobody seems ready to play blocker at this level. I think they will keep making it work together for a while - and like you, I'm happy to watch!

MHPavs lose in straight sets. Not the leadup to Tokyo they were looking for so far. 😱 and this isn’t even Spain 1. They just haven't been right ever since their coach supposedly quit. It feels like something else is going on too as they just don't seem in sync.
