It seems like Hughes didn’t pan out as a top player. She is definitely a good player. It’s a team sport and she doesn’t seem to be able keep partnerships together or see talent in other players. For whatever reason Em day seemed to get better results with Betsy then Sara. It wasn’t even that she went 0-6 it’s that she wasn’t even pushing teams to 3 sets in the CQ. April should be given credit for helping develop Alex. Kelly went all in with Sara S. Way back in the day Misty developed Kerri. Hughes just seem be sitting around for a top player to pick her up. Hughes wouldn't be sitting around if she had partnered with Walsh years ago. They likely would have also been the second US team going to Tokyo next month. But, hey, hindsight is 20/20. Umm…yes, she would. They served Kerri the last 6 events. Not Brooke.

Give me a break.

The level KWJ at her age is quite amazing. She was still hanging with world class athletes she just is not quite the player she was 8 years ago.

Since Summer and Brooke results were comparable to Summer and Sara. I would think Kerri and Sara would have had similar results as Kerri and Brooke. Summer equal to KWJ? Now there's an opinion I've never heard. No. Just no.

From 2004-2012 she was the best big in the game. 2013-2016 She was one of the top bigs but not the best. 2017 to present she might be a top player 10 blocker. It’s quite amazing what she has been able to accomplish but she is not the Kerri of the 2012. Hopefully she keeps playing. Maybe even play with Sarah for a year and show her the way.

Because KWJ is better than Summer? You're using Summer as your constant variable. I was comparing Kerri partner options. I don’t believe Kerri would have been in a better spot (fivb or Olympic) if she would have played with Sarah. But your argument/reasoning was that Sarah & Brooke both achieved similar results with Summer, therefore either, regardless of whom, would have gotten the same results with Walsh. I don't believe that to be the case as KWJ is much better than Summer ever was. Sarah is quicker & isn't injury prone like Brooke has been. She would have done a lot more for Walsh's quest for Tokyo than Brooke, but it's a moot point now.

Umm…yes, she would. They served Kerri the last 6 events. Not Brooke. That’s just not true. I’ve watched every game Kerri/Brooke played over the past few months. There were periods where Kerri was served, especially in one of the Cancun tournaments, but by large Brooke was served I would say 80% of the time.

I think it’s safe to say the best 4 women’s players are representing the US in the upcoming Olympics.

Again, hindsight is 20/20 & I realize Walsh was a gamble for Hughes with the injuries, but I just still to this day don't see how you risk it to play with one of the GOATs who has proven herself time & time again. It's irrelevant now, but I still think Hughes was a fool to give up the opportunity from a learning perspective alone.
