There are no points awarded in Gstaad. In essence, it’s vacation. The fivb competition committee will formally announce that next week but, it’s known. Three more teams pulled out today You mean no Olympic qualifying points, or no points at all? Non-Olympic points still matter for the future even though they don't matter for Tokyo. Then of course there is the usual 4* prize money. No points at all. There will be no points given.

The Olympics ranking list is basically frozen. All that’s left is the 5 continental cups to determine who’s going (tbd by the end of this month). After that each country submits which teams are going based on the one or two spots they have.

Can you imagine say the ATP or WTA doing this, I don't think they would. True, the FIVB points system is more of a crucible than the system used in tennis and so that might lend itself a little more to decisions like this being made, but still. And on a separate note, southbay11 I join with others here in saying that's incredible what you're doing to help the athletes!! And I look forward to any and all future updates.

There are days I’m questioning my sanity working full time for nothing and a lot of headaches but, I know we can figure this out and help. CBS News is featuring us Sunday Night and ESPN is interested. There’s so much to navigate from the legal side to the partnership side. I will announce this. That after the Olympics we will be working with “teams” for the next quad including coaches because most of them aren’t paid worth anything either. I’ve sat with a few big corporations this week (that’s always a long term endeavor) and soon hope to go to some funds and NFL owners for help. What means the world to me is just the players and coaches telling me they were able to play stress free for the first time not pinching pennies and then they won. That’s crazy. I just hope we can grow to 30 players in the next year

Mmm, I see. That explains a lot. (Thumbs up emoji. My computer won't pull up the full box of options )

Maybe this will come later, and not sure this is the place for me to bring it up, but why not be paid for what you're doing, and if it's a lesser amount than someone in the business world would be paid for a similar amount and complexity of work, that says just about as much about your intentions as not getting paid at all. It's great to get this update, much more than I imagined!!

If something unfortunate were to happen & one of the two teams were not able to compete for whatever reason, wouldn’t K & B be the next in line to take a spot. Why wouldn’t they stay ready just in case? Kelly & Em too for that matter. I have never seen this happen but……

I don’t know the exact rules - someone else may. But, I saw kerri 2 days ago; she looked very content to be done.

Isn’t it something like, if one player from the Olympic team can’t play, the partner can choose any other player who had gone through the qualifying process (to some degree)? Not sure what would happen if an entire team couldn’t go to Olympics.

good Lord. I hope USA Beach isn't paying for that. Come on. Anyone who is healthy enough to keep playing, who loses in Qualis with KWJ as partner just needs to preserve dignity and hang it up. Ohh... I guess that sounds judgmental. What the heck, that is what internet forums are for. USAV is letting Sarah H play and she went 0-6 in CQs… to be fair, Sara H did not go 0-6. It is a team game... a game that like basketball or soccer strikers gives a larger causation of positive result to the taller player given similar skills. But your point still holds in a general sense... the TEAM of Day/Hughes hasn't been successful and hugely in the red in terms of expenses. This really highlights the fact that to be Top 10 in the world, a team needs to have an elite Big. In the USA, at the time, that was pretty much Alix, KWJ, Summer, Claes, Larson and ... well, that was it, in that order. Day just isn't elite. Five. Huge gap to whoever was next after Day. Alix was taken. KWJ was rejected due to, at the time, injury uncertainties. So Hughes stuck with Claes. Hughes then fired Claes and "upgraded" one level to Summer, and ironically, it was Summer's injury issues, not KWJ's that put an end to that partnership. That left only two viable elites to partner with ... Claes and Larson. Claes was scorched earth (self inflicted wound), and Larson seems to have been happy to keep playing with Stockman. Even had Team Hughes (I really have no idea how Sara personally handled this) parted amicably with Claes, Sponcil IMO has surpassed Hughes after gaining these two years of Int'l experience. If Larson chooses to stick with Stockman, Hughes' FIVB career is pretty much over until Larson becomes available. After this year I can see Larson (Kolinske) and Hughes being a top 16 team. In 2 years I could see that Kloth would have developed enough to be a desirable partner for Hughes.. In 3-4 years, Kraft. Uncertain about Jones, but certainly not in the near term. The problem is, what does Hughes do for FIVB play until that time? Playing with Wilkerson in AVP just isn't enough to make a living. I cannot even begin to fathom the frustration, anger, and possibly depression that would result from being a Top 10 team in FIVB with Summer, to being completely on the outside. Plus wasting four separate international trips over 6 events to play on only one day... and not being ranked even in the Top 32.

I can't imagine her risking to aggravate an injury by playing in Gstaad for nothing .

She is definitely a good player. It’s a team sport and she doesn’t seem to be able keep partnerships together or see talent in other players. For whatever reason Em day seemed to get better results with Betsy then Sara. It wasn’t even that she went 0-6 it’s that she wasn’t even pushing teams to 3 sets in the CQ. April should be given credit for helping develop Alex. Kelly went all in with Sara S. Way back in the day Misty developed Kerri. Hughes just seem be sitting around for a top player to pick her up.
