When is the last time a fifth pin was used in a match of importance?
This has been asked and answered in another thread, but I'll paraphrase.
That final pin may not play in the gold medal match, but they can help their team get there and that's important!
My question was rhetorical

That final pin may not play in the gold medal match, but they can help their team get there and that's important! Right. He ignores it. I pointed out twice, to that argument that ask China fans -- they will tell you that Liu Xiaotong was either 5th (or 6th!) pin-hitter and a clear difference maker in a must-win quarterfinal match against Brazil. She is only one of two players that doesn't even play at all in the Gold Match after being the third best offensive player in the Quarterfinals. You never know when you need a double sub option, serving sub, or some type of spark when even your A-Lineup just isn't working. Doesn't mean that won't be your A-lineup the next day that wins it all. That's volleyball. You never know. We don't know what someone would have done more than CT, that's true. No guarantee they would have. But, we do know what CT did, and it was negligible at best. I just can't see how someone says 11th or 12th isn't the difference between Gold or not. You can't say that. I look at China's match and while that may be an anomaly, I bet you Lang Ping is certainly glad she made that decision for her 'last roster spots' and she won't tell you it didn't make a difference in the part of her Gold in Rio.

Yep, definitely the 4th outside hitter (after Zhu, Hui, Zhang), and at least the 5th pin (we took 4 OH's and 2 OPPs).
Ccame into the Brazil match when China was down 18-21 I recall in the 2nd set and hit 9/19 with no errors, highest efficiency of any wing spiker.
not ranked because didn't pass 15% of hits taken.

Germany looked at our passers and decided to go after her (which is probably the right choice) and she held up decently. I'm a bit of a perfectionist but I'd like more efficiency from Foluke (she hit .286). To be fair, I wasn't looking for set quality either. The slow start definitely affected us again, but after that we rolled. The one major team we've played, Brazil, we didn't have that slow start so I am a little interested in that. Obviously you don't want to start slow at all, but I don't think we'd start as slow against Turkey or China (for example).

Krob overpassed and was ace'd once each (at least) thats why i wait for the USAV stats lol Foluke and Hancock don't have a good connection. She always opts for the pin instead of the quick (she does the same thing at novara) It worked today... but Krob isn't going to be able to face the German middles every week

I'll edit them when USAV gets their stuff together.

Wasn't able to watch. I am just here to read hot takes on who are locks and who are "clearly" not gonna make the roster.

The point that so many players are serving Germany off the court doesn’t help the argument for MC . god you hate her a lot. Every post you make is a jab at her so far Every. Single. Post

Honestly, I'm here for these threads. The matches so far have been meh.
The highlight of this thread was the doof who tried to ban "lol" from being posted.
...lol.
We will probably know by week 4 who the Olympic roster will be and not until then. I do think that several fo the players on the court today will be the teams starters. That is my prediction. I'll leave it at that.

Totally agree. We won't start seeing Olympic rosters until week 4 and on.
Regarding Reach+'s theory about this being the starting lineup sans Hancock, I'd like to point out that this was the exact same lineup we had versus the Netherlands, except Ogbogu played instead of Dixon.

I too found that intriguing. I honestly thought Germany would be the toughest opponent we face this week. Italy is young and has good players but Germany has the better record. ...I was incorrect. Germany literally got served off the court today and the USA looks insanely good by comparison. Drews hit the ball harder than I have seen her hit....I think ever. At this point, I don't think I care who starts, but when the team is finally facing a tougher opponent, I just want those who are struggling to be given a shorter leash so that the subs are allowed TIME to come in make a difference. I was soooo pissed at Karch during the 2019 World Cup vs. China when he waited until late in the second set to make sweeping substitutions. THEN, he didn't wait long enough in the third set, before making subs that, IMO, cost the USA the 3rd set and the match. Long story short, I love the depth the team has, so I hope we get to see it and that Karch and Co. choose wisely.
