All I know is we're probably irritating a bunch of USA fans who just want to hear about the Olympics and their favorite USA players while we talk about World Championship implications good. they should stick around till then

Or does every setter play with this group this week? I don't think Robinson is a starter at Tokyo. They're still mixing things up this week. Hard to consider today's lineup "mixed up" in any way.

ope we got stats from today.
JWO passed 48/9 (23), Larson 38/38 (8), Krob 54/38 (13)
Krob didn't have any errors... but I'm pretty sure she was aced (maybe not). I guess an overpass isn't technically an error.
Germany was a good serving team. But there were some communication errors that can get cleaned up between JWO/Larson

I bet Poulter players tomorrow with the same hitters and then Carlini on Tuesday. If Carlini starts only setting vs. weaker opponents....I'm going to start being concerned. It's already time to start being concerned. It's nearly two weeks since she last played. The only other player who hasn't played since the first two matches is Plummer.

Germany's middles are so young (20&23) and they just got out-matched. They didnt know what to do with Drews at all. Germany would be better with Janiska and Lippmann. They just had no one they could go to offensively. Alsmeier needs the fast system but Germany doesn't have the passers to do it with Orthmann on court. (and Pogany had a really rough day) Italy has some good players... I just don't think enough to give the US a good test I hope KYK is playing for KOR tomorrow and Nwakalor in for ITA on Tuesday. I want to see IF the USA can shut down a go-to terminator. Watching Korea’s play though, you’d think KYK was doing her best impression of Ebrar, falling down after every swing. Can’t blame her though, the setters they have available are just not up to par. I’d be concerned if any of the sets vs. Korea will be close. Hopefully, JLP decides to play her best lineup vs. USA’s likely Olympic starters so have a better idea of where each team stands.

This has been asked and answered in one of the other threads, but I'll paraphrase what was said.
That final pin may not play in the gold medal match, but they can help their team get there and that's important! Right. He ignores it. I pointed out twice, to that argument that ask China fans -- they will tell you that Liu Xiaotong was either 5th (or 6th!) pin-hitter and a clear difference maker in a must-win quarterfinal match against Brazil. She is only one of two players that doesn't even play at all in the Gold Match after being the third best offensive player in the Quarterfinals. You never know when you need a double sub option, serving sub, or some type of spark when even your A-Lineup just isn't working. Doesn't mean that won't be your A-lineup the next day that wins it all. That's volleyball. You never know. We don't know what someone would have done more than CT, that's true. No guarantee they would have. But, we do know what CT did, and it was negligible at best. I just can't see how someone says 11th or 12th isn't the difference between Gold or not. You can't say that. I look at China's match and while that may be an anomaly, I bet you Lang Ping is certainly glad she made that decision for her 'last roster spots' and she won't tell you it didn't make a difference in the part of her Gold in Rio. Yes. There are only 12 Olympic roster spots, fewer than any other major event in our sport. How arrogant and stupid would a coach have to be to not try to squeeze as much value as possible out of those 12 athletes? Have we truly never seen one player sub in and change a match? That's all it takes. And hopefully we bring that player and hope our opponent didn't.

Maybe she is already one of his picks for the Olympics and the other two are vying for the second setter spot??

Fun fact: according to their website, USA only suited up 13 athletes today. Plummer, Hill, MBH, Courtney, and Poulter all not dressed.

I don't remember Karch screwing around with Thompson and Lloyd at the WGP in 2016. Regardless, there are like 11 matches (maybe?) until the Olympic Games begin, and our pool is no joke. If Carlini is the settled starter, her lack of reps with the other likely starters is concerning. To be this close and to still be evaluating (and dressing!!) 18 different athletes seems insane.

I completely agree. He may have a method to his madness. Up until today they each had started 2 games. It will be. Interesting to see if he continues this pattern.

A typo for me too: Plummer was dressed as well. I meant Washington. Washington, MBH, Courtney, Poulter + SWP as second libero.
