Last time AVP was in Atlanta it was at Atlantic Station (note TIC not TA) - courts built on top of large parking areas. Maximal sensible heat flux.

So the rise in the AVP membership fee from $20 to $40 would seem to be ill-timed, but I think it depends on who you are. If you are any type of player (who might play in any AVP First/AVP Next/AVP America affiliated event or even juniors events), you need to be an AVP member to register anyway, and I think that costs $20 per year. So for them, its not a bad deal. For the average fan who attends a tourney or two a year, it also seems like an OK deal, because you get first dibs on VIP seats and/or boxes if you are so inclined, plus AVP merch and affiliated vendor discounts (for whatever that might be worth). I would agree that if you never go to or play in a tourney, or never buy anything, you would not become a member unless it is to simply show some support for the AVP and its mission. Did anyone yet figure out where the Atlanta event will be held? We are definitely going to Manhattan and Chicago, but the heat and humidity in August in Atlanta, when combined with the fact that it will not be held on an actual beach, make this one a toss-up. By the way, we may spring for a box, if any are available, in Chicago, so if anyone wants to share the cost with us to make it more affordable (there are 3 or 4 of us so far), please let me know! You are the consummate fan Beavis. Appreciate your love and support of the sport. I am in a spot in my life that makes it impossible for me to do the same but I admire the hell out of your dedication and envy your travel and the experiences you get out of your efforts.

Thanks, COVAlove! Not rich or anything, but believe me, I feel blessed and lucky to be at the point in life where I have a very understanding wife, buddies to go to these tournaments with, and the financial ability to do so! Hope you can get to one sometime!!!

Is there any new info on the ticket situation? Presale opens today for AVP members. Are Manhattan and Chicago going to be business as usual, only selling VIP tickets and boxes, or are they doing any assigned seating in the grandstands? If I could pay $20 for a seat on Sunday and not have to worry about losing it if I go to the bathroom between matches, I would happily do that! Not in a spot where I want to pay for a box, though.

Well I'm disappointed. No Club AVP tickets for Chicago. Only cabana and courtside. Looks like the venue is going to be pretty small

Yes, this has been my issue, too.

Prices have been raised. A lot. A whole lot. Would have cost me more than my airfare and hotel combined. Unfortunately, I'm out.

I'm lucky enough to be in a position where I didn't travel at all in the last 1.5 years so that made the two days of VIP, hotel, and airfare extremely manageable for the Manhattan Beach Open. I'm also lucky to live close to Chicago so no airfare needed, just a hotel since I don't plan on spending $1500+ for courtside seats. Looks like you can't reserve cabanas online at any of the events, but instead have to email someone within the AVP to work with them directly. Was this standard in years past?

I have no problem paying the membership fee to support the AVP, but it feels a lot like the PSL for my 49er tickets. I am paying a fee just to “have the “privilege” to buy my season tickets? But in this case, there are only 3 events? 2 of them there is a 0% chance I’ll be going. I’d love to see one more CA event to make it worth while.
I understand paying for tickets on a Sunday in the stands, but can we still attend Manhattan Beach for free on Friday, and just walk around the courts freely? Or will we need to buy tickets for that as well? Do we know what the cost will be?

My expectation is that this info would be publicized on their website. Why isn't it? Are my expectations off base?

A different one each year that has no clue how to update what their predecessor did.

No general admission tickets needed for Manhattan Beach or Chicago this year - only Atlanta - we'll be able to walk all over and enjoy all of the different courts on Wednesday (assuming a two day Qualifier), Thursday. Friday and Saturday (and try to squeeze into the small grandstand on Sunday) just like in years past.

My expectation is that this info would be publicized on their website. Why isn't it? Are my expectations off base? I wondered how many total words/pages etc. they could include about tickets without ever stating how much those tickets would actually cost. The Kim Smith penned FAQ seems like an exercise in obfuscation. Why post a question "How many tickets will be available for each event?" and then refuse to answer it? Either don't pose the question or answer it. Surely the AVP knows how many tickets it is selling. There are several other questions in the FAQ, which the AVP asks itself and then doesn't answer. Agree with gauchoball11 on the PSL analogy
