The final Pablo rank of Big West Teams.

A year off took its toll this year but I expect at least half of the conference will be improved next season. I believe some of the teams will be very dangerous and the conference will have multiple bids.
I hope my LBSU team hires a quality coach because there is talent on the team and I expect a very big turnaround next season.

It’s a blue blood that, while dormant, has the potential make a splash again.

As long as the teams hold on to their young talent, and there is some very good young talent, in the BWC, the Conference as a whole should be improved over this past year. What about the Interim Head Coach LBSU had this past season. She seemed to be able to get the best out of her players.

Any significant losses to transfer in the BWC so far? Saw that one of the Bakersfield opposite subs is transferring on the College Transfers IG. Haven't seen anyone else as of now. Really hoping the BWC can come back intact. Lots of great pieces for all teams set to return

These are the top teams setters running 5-1s. I am assuming the eyeball test is not used. I believe these stats you pulled are from the overall season stats, and it's more likely that the conference-only stats would be used to determine the All-Conference team selection (as judging BW players from the pre-conference matches matters less than what the coaches see in conference play). Lang averaged 11.54 Assists/Set, 2.93 Digs/Set, 0.37 Kills/Set, 0.11 Aces/Set, 0.44 Blocks/Set, and she led Hawaii to a 0.272 hitting percentage in conference play (2nd in the BW). DeNecochea averaged 10.81 Assists/Set, 0.54 Kills/Set, 0.22 Aces/Set, 1.89 Digs/Set, 0.64 Blocks/Set, and she led Cal Poly to a 0.231 hitting percentage in conference play (3rd in BW). Elisaia averaged 9.16 Assists/Set, 1.32 Kills/Set, 0.32 Aces/Set, 2.60 Digs/Set, 0.96 Blocks/Set, and she led Cal State Bakersfield to a 0.208 hitting percentage in conference play (6th in BW). In comparing Lang and DeNecochea, Lang averages more assists per set, and as a setter she led Hawaii to hitting at a percentage that is a decent margin ahead of Cal Poly in conference. Lang also nearly averages a dig more than DeNecochea in a set, so Lang plays better back row defense. DeNecochea averages more kills per set (though she has a lower hitting percentage than Lang in conference play), more aces per set, and blocks per set, showing a more all-around game. If they selected based on which setter is the best at setting their team and keeping points alive, then that explains why Lang was selected over DeNecochea. On the other hand, Elisaia has the advantage over both setters in kills per set, aces per set, blocks per set, and she puts up the most points per set of any setter in the conference. She also digs more balls than DeNecochea as well. However, she puts up less assists than the both, and her team is hitting at a lower hitting percentage than the other two teams. Perhaps, they selected the two setters based on who set their team up the best in conference play (Lang as UCSB ran a two setter system), and based on who contributed the best all-around game as a setter in conference play (Elisaia who also scored points for her team). I think DeNecochea is in the middle between these two which is why she wasn't honored, and I'm genuinely surprised that she didn't even make honorable mention. Lang lived up to her hype. She was able to outperform more seasoned BW setters.

There's a lot of talent on the Beach to come in strong 2022. Assuming the pieces come back...

Don’t know if they entered the portal. You would think the girls would wait to see who the coach is, before making a decision. Heard that the school expects to announce the new coach sometime around the final four weekend.

Lovett would be a loss for sure, but she is from Georgia so maybe she'd want to transfer closer home? Starr didn't play much this year (or did she redshirt?). If this is it for the Beach, still potential to do well with the right coaching.

Yes, Lovett apparently was homesick and wants to be closer to home. Starr did redshirt, but don’t know why she would transfer. Wouldn’t a coach be taking a chance on someone who hasn’t played a season of college ball? I know she was a top recruit coming out of high school for her class, so I’m sure she had other offers. Guess we have to wait and see.

Hopefully next season the big west could be as competitive as a conference like the pac-12. I know it’s a long shot but it could happen. With how this past season went and how many strong young players in almost every big west team, I think next year would be a fun season.

Competitive in terms of the big west beating more ranked teams in the pre conference.
