I've been drafting a post and deleting over and over. I don't know where UW is right now. I don't know who we'll play. I don't know why we'll play them. A bit frustrating.

Lil tidbit: this will be the first meeting between Hilley and Shaffmaster. Not trying to make any comparisons. I was just recalling that lone Badger-Gopher match in the spring and how eerie it was that both teams were without their starting setter. Were the Badgers missing anyone else? Minnesota didn’t have CC or Myers either, so I was pretty proud to see the team take a set off of Wisconsin. Definitely gives me hope for tomorrow night. So much talent on both sides of the net.
I remember Landfair had a great match. That would be great to see again.

That would be great to see again. 2019 Match 1: No Kylie Miller (McMenimen played) 2019 Match 2: No Kylie Miller (McMenimen played) 2021 Spring: No Shaffmaster, McGraw, Myers, or Hilley. I think it’s been since 2018 that a healthy Gopher Badger squad battled.. unfortunately we won’t see Danielle Hart this year either. Wish both teams could stay healthy for the border battle!! |

How is Smrek at closing the block? I’ll admit I haven’t really paid much attention to her in the one game I watched with her, but I felt like it would still be another year or two before her blocking becomes really good because of her movement

And if they had played the Wed/Thur before, as was scheduled, others for UW would have been out, though we don't know who, particularly. But Minn bailed on the match. (the really interesting matches would have been the weekend before, vs Northwestern. Wisconsin's two-week COVID "pause" ended literally the day before the Friday when the first NW match was scheduled; at least seven up-front Badgers had had COVID on a rolling basis, and even though the two-week pause ended, some number of the seven would not have been available. Who knows who the front line would have been. But Northwestern bailed on that one, for non-COVID reasons that I don't know were ever explained. I get the feeling that if Sheffield only has six players who can go, he'd say "let's play".) |

Smrek has lots of room to improve her lateral quickness, especially to the right. Against Maryland, it also didn’t help that Robinson was having an off night as well. |
