Welp, that was a Purdue-Illinois match. Congrats Boilers on the win. Always entertaining for neutral fans! Is there any other matchup that consistently delivers like Purdue-Illinois? Always a good one. Another one that always delivers is Penn State-Nebraska,

Another one that always delivers is Penn State-Nebraska, Probably, but weird that the match results have been even more lop sided recently. Probably a statistical anomaly. Thus, if I were a Husker fan, I would want them to win in 3 or 4.

Out but I have no ill feelings on the line judged. That would be awful to try and call. Not sure why you would. She called it out and was overruled. EDIT: I see later you realized the actual sequence of events.

No question Illinois is a Top 25 team after splitting with #6 Purdue and losing a tough 3-1 match to #5 Wisconsin. You have to wonder why Illinois doesn’t air condition Huff Hall? It can be a real sweat box in August, September and early October.

What do you mean no air conditioning? Think of those giant ceiling fans (which look like they were stripped rotor blades from Super Stallion helicopters- Google it) as "air Cuisinarts". They condition the hell out of the air in Huff.

They condition the hell out of the air in Huff. Yup, this system uniformly distributes hot humid air throughout Huff. Why exchange air with the outside, filter it, etc., when you can just move it around. It works for me, when I'm watching the B1G network from my home in NorCal.

Match previews now added to the OP You make the best threads. Thanks for taking the time to make it better and better. I wish I had your skills. I like how you take the time to match the letters colors to the school’s colors. Old Gold and Black is hard to match sometimes. Thank you so much! And you're welcome- I have fun making them. I recently discovered that the Windows Paint 3D program's "eyedropper" tool will tell you the exact color of anything you click on. It gives you the same 6 digit code for a color which can be entered into the VT text color wheel. The text colors in the OP were pulled by clicking on each team's logo- quicker and more reliable than trying to eyeball them! And I was recently taught how to align tables in the center of the post, which is a gamechanger (shoutout to ilikecorn on the assist).

Purdue's campaign for a Top 4 seed is interesting. Their non-conference top wins have a lot of variability for me (outside of Tennessee, who I would be shocked to see not T25). Kansas, Washington State, UNLV, and Loyola Marymount are the others. All of those could be T50, or maybe just one is? 2-3 is most likely. They also get Wisconsin twice, will be interesting to see what happens there. Wisconsin's non-conference wins are Baylor, Kentucky, and Marquette. Could be better, equal, or slightly worse than Purdue's when the dust settles. You speak in riddles!

They're a little more on/off than some of the other teams competing for top 4 seeds.

I remember back in the old days ('50s & '60s maybe later too?) when Illini men's basketball played their home games in Huff and the Illinois boys' state high school basketball tourney was held there. Tiny and stuffy. Tickets were at a premium.

Going back to the discussion regarding the big fans in the ceiling at Huff, and all the discussions of how Illinois serves tough. When I played (Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan were presidents) players with a hard float serve, which floats because like a knuckleball there is little or no spin, would look for drafts in the gym and do their best to send their serve through the drafts, increasing the erratic movement of the serve. IMPE at Illinois, where club tournaments and the old Illinois Prairie State Games were frequently played, was notorious for downdrafts that would eat passers alive. Do the fans in Huff create enough air movement to move a serve?

I’m sure Dave Shondell will agree his team did not played like a Final 4 team against Illinois, but Illinois will cripple a lot of teams with their incredible serving game. I believe the Boilers will run the table at home and win the majority of their road matches in the Big 10. The Big 10 can be won this year with 3-4 losses of the parody of the league this year. With Wisconsin losing a prime time starting middle for the season, the Big 10 race is wide open and Purdue will be one of a handful of the teams fighting for the championship.
