I was talking about PAC. Well I know Sac State is making a big push for PAC entrance. I've read several articles of them investing in Sac State facilities to make it happen. Not sure how realistic or how long it would take to make happen though. Thanks. I read that they were making a big push for the FBS, were planing a new stadium, had NIL donors lined up, etc. I assumed it was for the MWC bc of the timing but also bc they're in such a good location to make rivals with SJSU and Nevada. I can understand why they'd prefer the PAC. Having Fresno State as a rival would work well too. I don't understand how they'd be able to do that in time to help the PAC reach 8 before the summer 2026 deadline, though. I guess the PAC may want to expand later. Sacramento State might have champagne taste on a beer budget, as the saying goes. I don't think they have a viable path to football pre-eminence (I say this in the context of them being a CA state university). SLO and Davis have a better chance/foundation imo, and Sac State might even be behind San Jose in terms of potential.

It's water under the bridge and too late now, but if the PAC actually is going to consider Sac State (I don't know if I believe that) ..... why wouldn't you just have taken San Jose State???
Stupid

The Pac-12 is actually in a fairly tight spot for the reason you mentioned. They have to convince an available FBS school to join them. I'm sure that, worst case scenario, they can bribe Texas State or Sam Houston State or something. But their plan doesn't seem very well thought out. Unless the NCAA grants them a waiver to extend the grace period to allow the FCS move-up's transition period to finish.
They would be wise to allow a conference brand with over 100 years of history, and still the premier college brand in the West, to survive.

PAC as a brand has some current value based on historical membership and history as a power conference. But what it's shaping up to be going forward is a re-engineered MWC that may not even be top of the G5 when all is said and done.

Why would the NCAA do that? They already have a waiver. And the Pac-12 is dead. This zombie conference is something else.

But no one actually views the Pac-12 that way anymore. It's a G6. Just because you call it the Pac-12, that doesn't mean that people won't realize that it's the Mountain West 2.0 when they see that Boise State, Colorado State, San Diego State, Fresno State and Utah State are most of the conference.

The NCAA would be stupid to let the Pac-12 brand die and should make special exceptions to keep it alive? No one that follows sports thinks that the Pac-12 is still alive now. Coca-Cola is probably the most recognizable brand on earth, but if Coca-Cola changes their formula to taste like something completely different, they're not Coca-Cola anymore, no matter what the label says.

That's a really strange example because they *did* do that, and ultimately ended up even more successful.

They attempted to change it in the 80's and they had to switch it back after like 3 months. And ended up more popular. In fact, "new Coke" (later named "Coke II") survived on the market for 15 years, alongside "Coke Classic" (later named just "Coke" again). Coke did all that because they had been losing market share to Pepsi. In the end, having shuffled things around and shuffled them back again, Coke ended up more dominant in the market than ever.

NMSU was a bottom feeder in D1 when I was a kid and some 60 years later, it's not any better. Two straight bowl games and 10 wins last year. It's too bad Kill quit, or whatever the hell happened. What is Tarleton's record as an FBS team, again? 0-0? Reminds me of that Family Guy episode. "Why would I take a boat when I can have a mystery box??? It could be anything! It could even be a boat!!" Besides Kill resigning, their starting QB and best receiver are now at Vanderbilt.

I missed this earlier, but UConn apparently turned down a football-only invitation to the Pac-12. Understandable.

Agreed, traveling across the country in college sports for anything less than record-breaking TV money is just .... stupid
