Hawaii can’t continue to come out slow and expect to recover against good teams, especially on the road. I’m not at all surprised with the result. UCSB outdid Hawaii in every facet of the match. It was really a straight up ass kicking. Credit Coach Lantagne’ Welch and her young team. They were prepared to play and it showed. Hawaii’s outsides other than BVS are becoming a real problem. I thought Wagoner turned a corner but maybe she is really just a .120 hitter? BVS can’t do it all. Other than players stepping up, I really don’t know what Coach Rob can do. I still expect Hawaii to win the Big West title by a few wins over both UCSB and Cal Poly but they need to show up and execute.

I would find it hard to believe that UCSB will have a repeat of their offensive performance. Four of UCSB's attackers hit .391 and above. UCSB played out of their minds. Not to mention their libero's 23 digs and one of their middles eight blocks.
If UCSB can keep that high level of play for the rest of the season they deserve the Big West championship and NCAA birth.

I don't know if it was them playing at home, but it looks like they did their homework against Hawai'i and scouted them well. Those digs by the Libero was something that stood out for me, along with their balanced attack. Not only was it balanced, but it was productive. They played very well. I'd love to see how they will pan out in Honolulu now that Hawai'i's got a taste of their game.

They’ll remember that ass kicking and will be at the top of their game in the rematch. Plus Hawaii fans will be back in attendance at the SSC. I expect Hawaii to return the favor next month.
