At 7-7 in the first set, Claire Hoffman looked (from the stands and on replay) to drop a serve right on the endline, but the line ref called it out. Cook flirted with challenging the call, but decided not to. Unless it's a lock, you don't want to challenge that early, because if it isn't reversed, you're down to only one challenge. As it was, UW won the set, so it didn't matter.

Ryan's hometown is just over the border from Spokane, a little north of Coeur d'Alene. Really close to WSU. Well either way we should’ve recruited her. She looked great

I'll confess. Women's VB season was when I took anything that resembles a "break," but watching/tracking this Pac-12 race has been phenomenal. I was asked to cover the media and it has not disappointed. I've tried my best to chronicle and track the top 4-6 teams the last few weeks. spark.adobe.com/page/b4miSAxHXT91j/

Backup setter is important. Bush will likely switch to OPP next year. Props to Greeny for uncovering a gem in her own backyard.

Great final conference match for UW and a great win....BUT....
That second set....falling behind 13-1....they will not be able to do that after the first day of the tournament, or there will be major disappointment.

Yeah, I expect some tournament teams will start serving Hoffman only, trying for a similar effect. Given her body of work, I feel that I have good reason to hope that will not be successful. Also, I think that Cook will a good set of options to deal with that strategy.

It is a deeper and better team than last year's Final Four team. I agree with this. Of course who knows what twists and turns await in the tourney.

Although some fans nearby were outraged, the ball was clearly out. You could see Cook mulling it over. He made the right decision.

Much better to discover a chink in the armor now than be surprised against an even better team in the tournament. You can bet that Claire will be taking a lot of reps on serve receive in practice over the next week (hopefully two weeks or more) and that she will be very ready when the whistle blows. And yes, Cook will have all options ready. I really think Claire will come through, though.

Yes indeed. PAC ranking RK Team SA SA/S 1 Washington State 191 1.74 2 Washington 184 1.70 And a significant reason for WSU's excellent serving stats is Pia Timmer, their best server. With Timmer, the offensive firepower, serving, and blocking all match up better with the Huskies. Looking forward to this rivalry next year, hopefully with a healthy cast on both sides of the net.
