18's Court
One of the matches had a lot of disputed calls with one coach getting Two time delay yellow cards Two outright yellow cards and a Red card. Play was stopped for a protest on an out call (whether or not the ball hit the tape or the pin)
A lot of this could probably be fixed by not calling Double contacts but I know little in this area.
On another court a disputed call almost lead to a Red card being called to decide the match in the third set! After the protest it was decided to play on. The team that was up 14 ended up winning.
Lots of passionate volleyball today!

I’m there. 1st Alliance will be difficult to beat in 17 Open. Yeah, 18s are funky. Front Range looked good. FC Elite can find another gear.
You weren't kidding about 1st Alliance. They've been really stomping people. Looks like there was only one set where they actually had any pressure on them.
Also, someone spill the tea on the 18's!
1st Alliance just picked up another 2-0 in the Gold opener against Skyline. Skyline gave it a good run, just not quite enough. I think Ebony Nwanebu was about ready to suit up and sub in.

Thanks for the tea about the 18's.
Also, at the NLQ, there's something of interest for Nebraska fans. Kairos 18 Adidas (out of Sioux Falls, SD I believe) is currently undefeated in the 18 USA Division. Their setter is Bergen Reilly ('23) who is a Nebraska commit and was also the starting setter for the national U18 team in Mexico this fall (for the final three games).
Nice to see some clubs from smaller areas making some noise.

I've been out to a qualifier in Nashville and some tourney's in GA the last few weeks. I wish they would just get rid of the double contacts. It is inconsistent as ever. Hopefully the trail run NCAA spring of not calling it will trickle down to club and other levels

Metro 16 will be an interesting team to watch. Loads of talent on that team. I predicted they will be a top ten when the 16's is all done.
Wave beat two undefeated teams to win the Power League (Sunshine and Coast). Coast had beat them in pool play. That Southern California Power League would be fun to watch.
Got to love club volleyball and some of the coaching. One coach objected to a net call and wanted a review. I'm not really too sure what he was looking for in a review or perhaps he was thinking these games had video replay. He was told the R2 called it, end of discussion.
The same coach was upset about an overlap call. He was talking to his captain and how dare the R1 blow the whistle for play while he was talking to his captain. He wanted to file a protest.
Fun times were had by all.

I’ll never get tired of club vb drama. There’s just an air of chaos and electricity in those convention centers that is so captivating.

LOL. Reading between the lines...
Personally I'd substitute the word "chaos" for "over-involved parents".
As for "electricity", umm well, I'd use a different term.
"Captivating" is a great word. Doesn't imply anything good or bad happened....

Ooooo nice how they doing today? Wave took the finals in two sets =) Sunshine was rolling Wave bigly in their first set in the crossover. Then, momentum swung Wave's way and it just wasn't working for Sunshine. Hitting errors killed them and Wave's defense showed up. Coast absolutely thrashed on T-Street in the first set of their crossover. I left before Wave/Coast, but per SC sounds like Wave took it.

For Metro 16 to win the MAPL Black Division is pretty impressive. They beat a Triangle 18 team to get into the finals, where they beat Metro 17. In a bracket of 47 teams, of which only six were 16s they took down 5 17 teams and two 18 teams, finishing 7-0 (14-2). Their only set losses were to Triangle 18 and Metro 17 but they won the third sets pretty impressively, 15-9 and 15-8.
An up and coming club in the Chesapeake Region that has seemed to pass Virginia Juniors in attracting talent, Paramount 16 took third place. They only lost two matches, both to Metro 17, one in pool play and the other in the gold medal bracket play. They actually took one set out of five against Metro 17 and beat an East Carolina 18 team (ECVC) in three to advance in the gold medal bracket. They finally lost to Metro 17 in the semi finals. They played five 17 teams (one of them twice) and one 18 team.
That is two pretty good finishes for 16 teams playing against some pretty good clubs in the 17 and 18 year age bracket.
In the Blue Division (14-16) Blue Ridge 15 upset Metro 15 in three in the finals. They won the third match 15-11. In the semi-finals they beat Paramount 15 17-15 in game three. For the Paramount team that was their only loss in the tournament. Blue Ridge finished 8-0, 16-2. For Metro 15 their only match loss was against Blue Ridge.

Circle City 17's (Chloe C) walked through Central zone invite with a point ratio of 1.7+ and did not drop a set (8-0/16-0). Beat Legacy in the final who had only dropped a set prior to being swept to KIVA who ended up taking 5th. Top 3's were A5 and AVC Cleveland
