Saw it too! That sucker's going to spread like wildfire I bet.
Thanks for the info on MN Select 18-1. That does sound like a hellacious weekend.
Any link to their trials and tribulations?
Sounds like they tried to make the best of it...

Umm, sure qualifiers are interesting tournaments but it seems like the Triple Crown NIT is one of the first big tourneys where almost all of the best teams will in attendance. Am I wrong? You're not wrong. It's what draws teams to the NIT. Best of the best and all that. Qualifiers are how you make it to the National tournament, which is what everyone goes through the season to achieve. A spot at THAT tournament.

National and USA is the next level after Open (many in the field are the #2 teams from top clubs with some #1 teams that typically aren't in the Open division). USA typically has the deeper field. Liberty and Freedom are new. American used to be the sole division in the third level and typically had huge fields at the qualifiers competing for 1 bid. I assume Liberty will probably be the better teams that formerly played in American and likely most of the former American qualifiers. As the pay to play indicates, Patriot could be anyone except teams that qualified in one of the other divisions. Basically teams that want to say they played at a National. How is USA a deeper field when it’s a level below National? The bottom of the National division are teams from some pretty poor regions and really aren't competitive at all with the teams at the top of the division. Meanwhile, the top of the National division are often teams that played Open qualifiers all season long and barely missed out. In the USA division, every team finished Top 3 in a national qualifier, so there is a lot more parity from top to bottom.

Lower than Open (obviously) but all teams won their way in and can play.

However, you can get a USA bid from one of your region teams, but that happens in strong regions. Team A plays USA in their first National Qualifier and earns a bid, then the region bid tournament or allocations happen and they get awarded the National bid. Their USA bid trickles down to the next team in the region (Team B). Also if team A plays Open and gets a bid at a different qualifier (or an at large), the USA bid stays with the region and again reallocated to the next team. So team A Open, B gets the National Bid and Team C now has the USA bid. Team A has actually earned all three bids. 🤣 Although I guess someone in the region would always get whatever National/American bids are allocated.

Am I wrong? ya, you would be wrong to think that Qualifiers aren't big tournaments. Teams are competing for one of around 32 spots in the National Championships.

While I think rankings are kind of dumb this early in the season, I'd move up Vital to somewhere around the 10 spot in the 18's. I swear I have absolutely nothing to do with the team. Is the Triple Crown basically the first "major" tourney of the season? Should be a hoot. Is there anything really on par with it? Still think the 17's should be awesome to watch. Kingsley called out 1st Alliance early at the NQL as a team to watch. Wasn't kidding. Correct. Outside of GJNC, Triple Crown has the toughest competition. Perhaps some the qualifiers have strong fields but not as strong as TC Plus those other places don’t have burnt ends

The 10 spot might be a little high for Vital. First Qualifier wasn't great for them but then they rebounded with a really strong showing at NLQ. I really thought they were going to earn their bid.

Some of these teams should be nowhere near the top 50 while teams like SPVB are not mentioned. To be clear, they are nowhere near the teams pre-rick collapse but they are still a very good (not great) team

The guy from JVA was also there, he gave me generalities because they just didn't know at the time with so many uncertainties. I told him there are only 3 tournaments that really matter - NIT, World Challenge and Nationals. He completely agreed. Said qualifiers are nice but the level of competition is not the same as the other 3, same with the random JVA tourneys. And yeah, Ribs. Gotta have the bbq if you are going to drive all that distance.
