2022 Adidas Lone Star Classic 18s (Austin - Feb 4-6) Schedule has been posted for all four divisions (Open, American, USA, Liberty) Seeds in 18 Open: 1) H Skyline 18 Royal 2) Madfrog 18's N Green 3) Rockwood Thunder 18 Elite 4) SA Juniors 18 Adidas 5) Excel 18 National Red 6) Skyline 18 Royal 7) Club Cactus 18 Mizuno 8) H Skyline 18 Black Boys Southwest Classic Qualifier will be in Austin Convention Center simultaneously, should be a fun weekend! (Weather permitting) Speaking of weather permitting… How many tournaments will actually happen this weekend? Is it worth the risk to teams to bother going? I have heard that many some teams from DFW are heading down to Austin tonight to get ahead of the storm…

Correct. Outside of GJNC, Triple Crown has the toughest competition. Perhaps some the qualifiers have strong fields but not as strong as TC Plus those other places don’t have burnt ends Was talking to a couple of directors during the covid year, asked them how World challenge was going to shape out. The guy from JVA was also there, he gave me generalities because they just didn't know at the time with so many uncertainties. I told him there are only 3 tournaments that really matter - NIT, World Challenge and Nationals. He completely agreed. Said qualifiers are nice but the level of competition is not the same as the other 3, same with the random JVA tourneys. And yeah, Ribs. Gotta have the bbq if you are going to drive all that distance. I don't get how you can give big ups to the National tournament but dismiss the Qualifiers that get you to Nationals. Our club doesn't do the World Challenge so I don't know anything about that. Also I find it strange that AAU's was ignored. That is a tough tournament to win. Always a lot of good teams at that one.

I don't get how you can give big ups to the National tournament but dismiss the Qualifiers that get you to Nationals. I think the point is....at any given qualifier, less than 25% of the field will end up in open at Nationals...so, from day 1, Nationals is much, much deeper than the qualifiers....

Well yes, without a doubt! It is Nationals after all.

Also... 20 Teams On The Cusp Drive Nation 18 Red (Texas) Dynasty Academy 18 Adidas (Kansas) Front Range 18-1 (Colorado) Houston Skyline 18 Black (Texas) Dallas Skyline Juniors 18 Royal (Texas) AZ Storm 18 Thunder (Arizona) Nebraska Elite 18-1 (Nebraska) EXCEL 18 National Red (Texas) Triangle 18 Black (North Carolina) Mizuno Long Beach 18 Rockstar (California) Absolute 18 Black (California) Spike and Serve 18-1 (Hawaii) NKYVC 18 Tsunami (Kentucky) Sky High Adidas 18 Elite (Illinois) Vision 18 Gold (California) 1st Alliance 18 Gold (Illinois) Epic United 18 Elite (Indiana) MKE Sting 18 Gold (Wisconsin) MichioChicago 18 Natl (Illinois) Roots 18 UA Green (Texas) CUVC 18 Premier (North Carolina) Pohaku 18-1 (Missouri) UPVBC 18 Open (Oklahoma) HJV 18 Elite (Texas) Club Ignit Select 18 Blue (Iowa) Austin Skyline 18 Royal (Texas) Lexington United 18 Adidas (Kentucky) Adidas KIVA 18 Red (Kentucky) Illini Elite 18 Cardinal (Illinois) Mintonette Sports m.81 (Ohio) So Sports Performance 18 Elite is no where in top 50… ok They have defeated two Illini Elite teams 2x each, and another SPVB team, for a total of 5 wins. Some of these teams are 15-20 matches into their season in multi-regional power leagues and qualifiers. SPVB 18 Elite is probably a very strong team but if they are not going to play a competitive match until Bluegrass, it does make them hard to rank. Doesn't mean they don't deserve a mention somewhere, but I get it.

AAU's are nationals, not being ignored. Most qualifiers you have 5-6 really great teams but a pool of 18-24 is not pushing the boundaries. That and I hate qualifiers along with USAV anyway so will dismiss them personally. "Here, we booked you a hotel to save you money and you must stay here or you don't play". But you can find cheaper hotels if you were allowed to do your own booking. Never understood why NL doesn't go to WC. So focused on bids with no regard to cost. Salt Lake City to Orlando to Orange County and everywhere in between?

One of the things we've appreciated about NL is that all the trips are factored into the tuition and aren't an expense on top of everything else. We pay roughly the same as the other major clubs but they have to pay for their kid's flights too. Also the block of hotels the club finds are always very close to the venue. I've talked to parents from other clubs who were a little ways away from the venue. NL ain't perfect but they've always been a good fit for us.

It is nice when you get a hotel that is near the center, last year at NIT we were on the plaza. This year? 20 miles away out by the airport. Being downtown was awesome.

I will say this is a huge perk being from a large club. At Nationals and Qualifiers we are typically right near everything. NIT we are at the Sheraton I believe. Friends I have are nervous for Indy cause they were put by the airport last year for MEQ.

I got the Harrah's on the river for NIT and Show Me in April.
Please keep me away from the slot machines. Growing up in Nebraska, I've actually never been to a casino.

I coach for a big club and we already have our housing blocks for everything and are either at the host hotel or within a block of the convention centers. When you bring 15-20 teams, it helps a lot. I saw a passing email that we have our room block for Nationals already and I think we got the JW. I have zero complaints, especially since I will be there for the entire Nationals event from start to finish.

I like the Springhill/Courtyard attached to the JW for our teams because it includes breakfast. Stayed at JW last year for MEQ always a good hotel.

Nah, our issue was our club waited too long to establish rosters and then put them out this year so we got the bottom of the barrel. 3 weeks of tryouts once you have already tried out is a bit much

Last summer, our club was lucky to get bumped up to a nice hotel in downtown KC due to the number of top clubs that didn’t attend the May event.
