While I think rankings are kind of dumb this early in the season, I'd move up Vital to somewhere around the 10 spot in the 18's. I swear I have absolutely nothing to do with the team. Is the Triple Crown basically the first "major" tourney of the season? Should be a hoot. Is there anything really on par with it? Still think the 17's should be awesome to watch. Kingsley called out 1st Alliance early at the NQL as a team to watch. Wasn't kidding. Correct. Outside of GJNC, Triple Crown has the toughest competition. Perhaps some the qualifiers have strong fields but not as strong as TC Plus those other places don’t have burnt ends You will also see alot of the top teams that don't compete at qualifiers which like it or not there are many teams that don't do qualifiers so Triple Crown and AAUs is the only place they may meet up.

Here is some knowledge dropped by Tawa @volleyballmag.com about the 18s. Please read and support their journalism =)
• We won’t be doing club rankings at VolleyballMag.com this year, but I’ve been asking around about the best teams. Here are teams that are considered elite at the 18s level:
Sunshine 18 LA A5 18Marc Houston Skyline 18 Royal Coast 18-1 Madfrog 18’s National Green

Sorry if I missed this -- but what happened to MN Select 17-1's last weekend? I thought they would be at NLQ?

I think they were up 14-11 in the third set of the game that would have gotten them a bid and lost.

They have defeated two Illini Elite teams 2x each, and another SPVB team, for a total of 5 wins. Some of these teams are 15-20 matches into their season in multi-regional power leagues and qualifiers. SPVB 18 Elite is probably a very strong team but if they are not going to play a competitive match until Bluegrass, it does make them hard to rank. Doesn't mean they don't deserve a mention somewhere, but I get it. prepvolleyball.com showed with their year-end rankings they don’t take big win resumes into consideration. They just don’t know what they’re talking about. You realize they changed like half their staff since last year, right? Different people, different sources, means different rankings. Whoever and however, I'm saying it's hard to rank a team that hasn't played anybody and that nobody saw.

(Weather permitting) Speaking of weather permitting… How many tournaments will actually happen this weekend? Is it worth the risk to teams to bother going? Just checked the schedule… no Rockwood Thunder and many others no longer coming to Austin

Just checked the schedule… no Rockwood Thunder and many others no longer coming to Austin As of last night something like 6,000 domestic flights have been cancelled due to weather. Traveling for volleyball was only an option if A. You live close enough to drive, and B. The tournament is taking place in an area only mildly affected by a snow storm. Lots of the girls who drove to Austin have been posting pictures of snow. I’m amazed. 🥶

prepvolleyball.com showed with their year-end rankings they don’t take big win resumes into consideration. They just don’t know what they’re talking about. You realize they changed like half their staff since last year, right? Different people, different sources, means different rankings. Whoever and however, I'm saying it's hard to rank a team that hasn't played anybody and that nobody saw. This is not a valid excuse for PrepVB. Their coverage had already declined significantly. A few weeks ago they published their picks for club and high school players, and these were just lists. There were no metrics, just names of players. They did the same with their recent top 30 club articles. They listed 30 clubs. Literally, just listed the clubs. #1 Club X. #2 Club Y. Etc. There was no explanation given, no rationale like Club X is #1 because they have two high school All Americans. Just a list. So what does a struggling site with high turnover and thin coverage do to recover from this deficiency? They EXPAND to cover boys volleyball too, so spread a thin group of new staff even thinner to capture that much smaller niche of boys volleyball at the expense of girls volleyball coverage. Cater to the minority and lose the majority, that's business 101 for failure. I don't know the history or politics of that site, all I know is I am retiring soon and may try to start my own site. I think I could do better gathering info from Volleytalk, the club sites, and Maxpreps. Heck the only real info I've learned this club season has come from Volleytalk, not from my paid subscription to PrepVB. The two recent articles by John Tawa are far more enlightening then anything I've read on PrepVB 8n the past year.

Already one tragedy related to driving to Austin. Venom volleyball in Arizona lost a player and has a couple others in critical condition from a weather related car accident on their way there 😓 gofund.me/699b0349
