Does Bruna open up a scholarship? We definitely need more help at outside. Need to figure which options are still available in the portal. Ah yes. Redshirt Senior so maybe not. Interesting that the roster still has Ellie listed even though she has medically retired. Kuper is gone from the roster page.

17 on the Fall 2021 roster. * is my guess of who was not on scholarship in the fall.
Collins Hinton* Kuper* Bruder* Brown Swanson Bingham Whittington Vrankovic Barnes Holzman Terry Nunge Cooney* - if she was she wouldn't count towards 12 Sakoda* Gregus Mosher

Thanks for the elaboration liberovb10 . I guess we'll just need to wait and see what Tamas does. Moving on, any guesses as to the schedule release? The Dayton tourney looks nice. Is the B1G/Pac-12 challenge still a thing? Would really enjoy seeing some ACC teams in Huff. Looks like the Big Ten released their conference schedule on June 11 last year, so we might have to wait another month or so.

It ends up with the same number, but Hinton signed a letter of intent while Gregus was announced in April of her senior year, the time of year when non-scholarship players are announced. The big difference is Hinton will be a senior in her final scholarship year and Gregus will be a junior with two non-covid years of eligiblity. Both have a covid year available. I also think Kuper was on scholarship, not sure why I think that.

I recall someone having posted that players who were redshirting during the 2020 season (Spring 2021) do not get a bonus covid year- they only get the usual four seasons of eligibility. I think that means both Maddie and Gregus only get four seasons. But I could definitely be wrong on that.

Huh. I both played and coached. That has not saved me from frequently being clueless about Illini volleyball. Nor has it stopped me from clueless posting. Your honesty and humility is very much appreciated "oldmanvb". Glad you're an Illini fan and frequent poster!

With Brown’s academics and entry into a graduate program, where I assume there is more scholarship and grant money, if she receives a full academic scholarship would that count against our limit of 12 athletic scholarships?
Just my opinion, but watching Brown and Mosher set at our one exhibition game, Mosher is not, at this time, or at least that afternoon, ready to beat Brown for the starting setter position. On the other hand, having watched Mosher, a lefty, hit on the right side, I would not jump to the conclusion Burbage will beat her out just because Burbage is 4” taller.
Final thought on a boring Sunday afternoon, after watching the Celtics and Bucks sliding around on a playing surface sitting on a sheet of ice, I think the volleyball team dodged a bullet when JW announced the cancellation of the hockey/volleyball arena.
