If we are pining over a 6'0" setter to be our opposite we are in trouble......and yes I have seen Mosher. I know she is athletic and she seems to have an arm but if we are playing a 6'0" setter and she is going up against 6'3", 6'4",6'5", hell 6'9" in the BT we have an issue with recruiting. Mosher would not hit consistently in the BT at opposite and with our passing we need an opposite that can terminate crappy sets when out of system which we live out of system with our passing. Mosher is not going to be able to terminate on a crappy off the net set after a crappy pass. She just isn't. And roll shots won't cut it in the BT. Kayla is a huge pick up for us. We will have to see how she produces but again.....do we really want a 6'0" setter at opposite? Everyone was saying the same thing with Mica Allison a few years ago.....lefty, athletic, good arm, hit in high school and club........how did that work out for us?
Brown work's hard and she gets horrible passing but I am with others and have never been a fan of her decision making, if I can tell where she is going...well, and her setting is inconsistent. Wish she had better passing but at this point unless Krista does wonders with the passing. I will add Brown is an above average blocker for a setter also.
Mosher needs to play setter and if Brown struggles Mosher needs to ger some PT. That is just my opinion.

I don't disagree with any of your comments. Burbage will probably end up hitting on the right side. I just don't think it is as cut and dried as some are assuming.
I also have problems with much of Brown's decision making. I'm particularly puzzled by her reluctance to set the back row when she had one and sometimes two 6'4" hitters in the back row, both of whom were capable of an effective back row attack. Witness Terry in the Kentucky match, in which her back row attacking was a big part of the difference. Brown had success setting Quade in the back row. Where her setting the back row went when Quade graduated is a mystery to me. Bad passing is only a partial excuse. Watching one scrimmage in the spring left me with the opinion that Mosher is not an immediate upgrade, at least not yet. It may have been a bad day. It may have been hitters being more comfortable with Brown, something that can change over time. I also think Tamas has experimented with a 6-2 on two separate occasions, neither time yielding productive results. Bottom line, I think Brown will be setting a 5-1 for the foreseeable future.

You know who else was a 6'0 setter who hit in the B1G? Jonni Parker. While we're talking about 6'0 hitters in general, don't forget about Julia Orzol and Anna DeBeer.

I could see Tamas experimenting this fall with a 6-2 with Mosher in the Fairbanks role.

Burbage isn't coming here to sit. She started at Mizzou last year. She was brought in to play.

No one comes here to sit. I would be shocked and disappointed in Tamas if he promised playing time to a recruit.

Mother being listed at 6β0β is generous. Brown has questionable decision making but our passing was average at best. So many times her only outlet was high OH.
Burbage is 6β4β with long arms so she presents a much bigger block ala Cooney. I still say get Mosher on the court as a DS when Brown is in the front row. This gives us a back row attack option and if Brown handles the 1st ball contact, Mosher can step in and set.

Hey, just saw in the 2022 D1 Schedules thread that Villanova has Illinois on their preseason slate at the Dayton Invitational on September 10. Have to imagine the Illini will also play Dayton and Missouri State that weekend. Dayton's schedule was just posted to that same thread ^ and it shows the date/time for each Illinois match in the Dayton Invitational tourney: Date | Time | Opponent | Friday, September 9 | 4 PM (CT) | Missouri State
| Saturday, September 10 | 10 AM (CT) | Villanova | Saturday, September 10 | 7 PM (CT) | Dayton

We've got another preseason weekend that's taking shape, with Marquette's schedule release today! Looks like they're hosting us and Illinois State the weekend of September 16-18: Date | Time | Opponent | Saturday, September 17 | 6 PM (CT) | Marquette | TBA | TBA | Illinois State |
I'm looking forward to making the trip north of the border : )

For grins I've added our current preseason schedule to the second post of this thread. There are still some guesses on dates but it's at least a rough idea of what we can look forward to.

I do not know how other Illini volleyball fans feel, but I am feeling super-excited about the future of Illini volleyball. I have always believed in Coach Tamas as the future of Illini volleyball, however Krista brings so much to the program. She is a winner!
