The intangibles will be equally important. Who will provide leadership? What will the team chemistry look like? Teams that have advanced far in the tournament have had a competitive swagger and found ways to win in tight matches.

I think Barnes will actually be an improvement at libero in all respects other than serving. Replacing Barnes may be a problem. Opposite is the big mystery. Swanson at the end of the year was much better than earlier in the season. Overall, if we improve passing I think we will be much better. OPP is not a mystery - Burbage will fill the spot nicely. Already invited to train with NT/College team. She will be as good or better than Cooney.

Maryland released their full 2022 schedule today, leaving Illinois as the only conference team that has yet to release their final sked (I believe this is true).

The roster has been updated. Let's hope that is a precursor to the full schedule.

Not sure if it's a mistake, but Burbage is listed as a freshman. Would love to have her for four years.

I see Illinois has their conference schedule posted here: fightingillini.com/sports/womens-volleyball/schedule/2022 and we can decipher their non-conference schedule based on other teams' schedules - 1st Week: Ole Miss Triangular (Ole Miss & Georgia Tech) 2nd Week: B1G/Pac 12 Challenge @ Colorado (Colorado & Washington) 3rd Week: Dayton Tourney (Missouri State, Villanova & Dayton) 4th Week: Marquette Triangular (Marquette & Illinois State) Overall, a pretty solid non-con schedule. Georgia Tech & Washington will be top 25 teams, and the rest (for the most part) are all pretty solid opponents. Here are last year's final Pablo rankings: -Georgia Tech (9) -Washington (13) -Ole Miss (37) -Colorado (48) -Marquette (50) -Dayton (64) -Illinois State (92) -Missouri State (124) -Villanova (185)

Disappointed there are no home non-conference matches. This makes me sad too. Smart not to release the schedule - imagine most season ticket holders will have the same reaction.

Me too- that's a looooong wait to see our Illini in person at Huff. I'll def try to make the trip up to Milwaukee to watch them play Marquette and Illinois State. A Dayton road trip is less likely unless a carpool situation materializes. *I've updated the schedule on the second post in the thread and here it is for good measure: Day | Date | Time (CT) | Opponent | Location | Saturday, | August 27 | TBA | Georgia Tech | Oxford, MS | Sunday, | August 28 | TBA | Ole Miss | Oxford, MS

So much for home advantage in pre-conference. I won't subscribe to SEC+ or ESPN+ or PAC+, so hoping Marquette hosted matches are available online. I know I've watched some Marquette home games on either their Facebook or YouTube stream.

Big East had a Flo subscription last year... but all of the releases I've seen said it was only for 21-22.... so hopefully they're back to Youtube streams (or even Fox Sports online) Marquette was pretty good about streaming non-Marquette matches.

Those first two weekends will be a very good measuring stick to judge what the Illini have this year. Those are all quality teams.

I look for the Illini to be the sleeper of the B1G. I watched this team play some great matches a year ago. How many teams have a better qualified returning setter?
