I really hope Barry can come in and work hard for that libero spot. Is she graduating early? Barnes is not a big ten libero, and I'm not trying to be disrespectful. I think she wouldnt even start as DS in many B1G schools. She had ZERO digs the first set I believe. She could not pick up anything. Thats the difference maker for Illinois getting digs and running the offense. Also excited to see Mosher take the setting spot next season. She has impressed me this season. The fact that she is probably our best pin hitter is sad when she is a setter.

Couldn’t wait to get Barnes on campus. She is a true DS. Now she’s not good enough so we can’t wait to get converted OH Barry on campus.
I think they need more help at the net. More hands on the ball to block or at least slow it down so your backrow isn’t always under the gun.

That’s not necessarily true. Firstly, Illinois has better athletes. Indiana serves better and this particular year is playing harder. |

It’s a bummer to see our season essentially end this way. we were playing hard these last final weeks and desperately needed IU and NU wins. With how Northwestern has been playing at home, i don’t see us coming out with a W on friday :\

What a disappointment this year has been.
As well as Hinton played at the end of the year, and she truly exceeded at least my expectations, our middle play was a disappointment, particularly the blocking. In the last few games Brown started going to the middles, with some effectiveness, but our blocking was never at the level needed to win in the B1G. I assume there continues to be something wrong with Collins’ ankle, as she completely abandoned running a slide, her most effective weapon the year before. She also was not able to close the block. In my opinion Barnes had to choose to dig either a split block or severe cross-court. Too much court to cover was her biggest problem.
Something needs to be done about our passing. A common theme on this thread, almost a cliche, but even more than blocking was the source of our mediocre play. It is hard for the left pin to be effective when trying to hit through a solid block that has cheated to her side of the court. I don’t know if it is a coaching problem, but the first thing I would look for is an assistant who specializes in teaching passing.
Obviously there are bright spots, but I’m too aggravated to talk about them right now. Next year will see a lot of new faces on the court, particularly in the middle and in the back row, whether red-shirted freshman, true freshmen or transfers. I hope they are up to the task.

Would not surprise me if Raina transfers. She deserves a better team and this team will not be better next season.
