Wow…the back row needs to be addressed yesterday. No proven back row player coming in either

At no point in this season was there any excitement...which could describe temperament of this Illini team. 10-10 Big, 15-15 season...hopefully low point of Tamas era. Obvious Tamas will identify (probably already has) and attempt to address Illini program weaknesses. If not, Indiana, Maryland, and Northwestern are ready to displace the Illini from middle of BIG. And UCLA and USC are coming... Could not have said this any better. No hype, excitement, or promotion around this team in the off-season, pre-season and even barely into the B1G opening. Almost felt like a throw away year, but a throw away for what? haha Maybe the roster reload is what we need for Brooke to really step up as the emotional, court leader that we seemed to not have all season long. I think we can also cut Barnes some slack for the role she got thrown into after TK’s late announcement. She has a whole B1G season under her belt as the starting libero. get the new recruits in early and start hammering home the fundamentals of passing. In Tamas we Trust

I blame it all on the video board. Because of the installation we had no home pre-season.
Someone needs to address the passing. Northwestern beat us because they were generally in system and we were rarely in system. Their hitters are not better than ours, but they look better when they get to hit at a split or late block. After watching Nebraska, Wisconsin, OSU and Minnesota tonight it is amazing how often they were in system compared to us. Brown is a better setter and our pin hitters are better hitters than we saw simply because of our passing. We have talked about this ad nauseum. Through the year Tamas tried different service receive patterns — two passers, three passers, four passers — stack left, Burbage subbing for Brown — hiding different passers — bringing in a DS for a six rotation player — nothing worked. For a time Terry’s passing improved but as she was picked on more and more she seemed to regress.
I hope whoever observed Terry is going into the portal was venting and not working from inside information. Having said that, she is going to have the same problem wherever she goes unless she is hidden in serve or improves her passing. We desperately need her but she needs to improve her passing.
My vote is for bringing in someone who will teach a different passing technique as what we are currently doing is killing us.
I was encouraged this weekend when Mosher was setting as she seemed to be willing to run the middle even if she was 5 ft off the net. Brown would not set the middle unless the pass was to the net. Both Collins and Hinton showed an ability to open up for a set coming from 5-6 ft off the net, hopefully our next set of middles will do the same.
Rant over. My wife thanks all of you for listening to me this year so she did not have to. Talk to you all in spring season when we have a substantially different roster to evaluate. Go Illini.

Are you referring to this post?: Would not surprise me if Raina transfers. She deserves a better team and this team will not be better next season. Sure sounds like postseason venting to me and not some inside info portal update. If she were to enter the portal this offseason we would be clobbered over the head with it immediately and in several threads. We would hear about it. This ain’t that.

Sad that the Illini were the 4th best team in the state by RPI That shouldn't happen.

We had no spring games and no September games. I don't think it had to do with the scoreboard - I think it was because of the lack of A/C in Huff Hall.

If it is too hot for matches, where and under what conditions do they practice? Snark question. How does Tamas recruit the really top talent to our facilities? Are we limited to recruits from Washington State, Vancouver, Canada, North Carolina and other places where the players have not experienced Central Illinois in August?

Are we limited to recruits from Washington State, Vancouver, Canada, North Carolina and other places where the players have not experienced Central Illinois in August? It has nothing to do with the lack of AC, they’ve hosted matches in Huff during late Aug/Early Sept year after year. The timing of the scoreboard install was definitely poorly scheduled by our athletic department. hopefully they use this as a learning experience for any future upgrades to Huff and help bring more buzz/publicity to this program. If anything Illini VB has been one of the more consistent programs (rev or non-rev) for the university over the years, and should be given that support. On the Tamas recruiting question, i think it was mentioned a few pages back. But his answer is essentially that the facilities/perks they can provide at Illinois are still way better than what they’ll see if they play professionally overseas (shows them a picture of Poulter’s locker). he also says that anyone who asks/mentions/talks about the condition of the facilities might be looking at illinois for the wrong reasons and that he essentially wants kids that will go there to play for a greater good (team vs. individual/facilities).

Aren’t Michigan and Northwestern ineligible with losing records in the Big Ten? Or am I misremembering this? Conference records do not matter to the NCAA as past history has shown.

I saw LSU get announced with a 15-13 record and gave myself false hope for a last-four in call…onto 2023!

Following the transfer portal thread, it appears that two outside hitters (Anna Dixon and Kaylee Cox) from Mizzou are transferring. Perhaps Kayla Burbage can convince one of them to join her on the Illinois roster. Both Dixon and Cox were ranked in the top 50 of their respective high school classes.

TTA from Northwestern is in the portal as a grad student with a biomedical engineering degree… give her a call! 😊

I noticed she was also in the portal. She and Terry would make an excellent pair of outside hitters.

Perhaps, but she did play at Northwestern for four years.
