Well through 6 games, I'm convinced most of the positions on court are locked down, except for two, maybe three: L1: Chinn is okay here as long as she doesn't have to pass. But she hasn't been very terminal from the left. Ellis is... I don't know what's going on there. While I think Chinn and Koch have improved over their four years, Ellis looks to have regressed. She's still a great left side blocker and defender, but her attacking errors are getting really bad. Into the antennae, under the net, way long, into the net... you name it, she's done it over the last few games. And her passing is worse than Chinn's. Purdue is desperate for production in this spot because teams are going to target Hudson on defense when she's back row. If the pass isn't there, Renner is going to the L1. I'm not as confident with a two-person serve receive as I've been over the years when we had Otec/Hornung/Schermerhorn back there, so someone has to step up and be that player in this position. OPP: Koch is a great blocker on the right, but she's been very up and down offensively. Chinn is a much better right-side attacker, but her blocking is meh. Neither is standing out consistently, but Chinn is making the plays. They could move Koch back to the left, but again, passing. I also don't know if Renner is a lock yet. She can be really good (vs. Utah) or really off (vs. Tennessee). I know it's a passing issue, but she's also had some really iffy connections during transition. But I think she'll get there. Before the conference starts? IDK. If Ellis/Koch/Chinn cannot hold down the L1/OPP position, do you think that Coach Shondell can continue the 3 person carousel of players in those positions? It worked kind of last year with Newton holding down her position and those 3 sharing the position.

You need at least one steady pin player to balance out the huge amount of swings Hudson is going to have to take, especially when she's back row.

Before the conference starts? IDK. Ellis has nights where I think she’s finally figured it out and the next very game she’s hitting negative. I don’t get it, especially as a Senior. I’m going to assume Warren is redshirting since she hasn’t seen the court yet. Imagine if Chicoine was here this year… 🥲 Regardless, the talent on the pins will be quickly replenished (if not improved on) next year with Chicoine, Heaney, and Wollard coming in. The future is VERY bright.

L1/OPP is pretty scary then. Those are 2 positions that we need answers at and quick. Louisville is next and it doesn’t get any easier as the schedule goes on and Big Ten matches begin. I got Big Ten Plus and am hoping that next weeks matches will be streamed.

The match with Louisville might be on ACCN or ESPN+ but the second Purdue match will be streamed on FloVolleyball.

If the standings keep, it’s number 3 versus 11. How is this not been broadcasted?! Craziness.

Re: Renner, I think Dave is forced into her or at least 6-2. Grace sets a really nice ball and obviously has a ton of experience. But you cannot run her through the front row for three rotations in conference play. Having said “forced”, Renner’s improved significantly since Knoxville. She looked much more comfortable with the flow of the game this weekend. She needs to keep improving weekly and she’ll be all right. I do love how she runs the middles a lot. Clearly needs to clean up the dis-connections we saw, but definitely needs to keep improving, identify attacking opportunities and capitalize on them. Louisville will be tough. We’ll see what this team is made of Friday night.

Schermerhorn has been fantastic. With as much concern as I heard about her in this thread over the last few weeks shouldn’t there be some crow eating happening? 🤣

Cannot wait for Friday to come. Hoping for a YouTube stream of the match haha.

Purdue has had a good run. They have exceeded expectations so far to begin the season. Now they must go to Louisville and meet number 4 in the country at their house. Realistically….can Purdue win? Does Purdue have a similar personnel to OSU’s roster to compete with Louisville? I am so excited to hear the match on Friday!!! I am hoping that maybe the match will be picked up and I can see it on TV or on ESPN app.

I'm not sure Purdue is ready to win this match, but I want to see how competitive they are against a true national championship contender.

spoilerboilermakers -- Louisville's schedule says the match will be aired on ACCNX. So if you're subscribed to ESPN+ and have the app, you should be able to watch it. At least, I haven't had any problems watching matches on ACCNX this year. Purdue's match against Xavier/Lipscomb will be aired on FloVolleyball though. Boooooooooo!

Louisville is definitely a true national championship contender. I read that Louisville best last years Boilermakers 3-0.
