Actually I don't think this is uncommon in the era of the portal. Players transferring to somewhere else is common, perhaps. Not having a conversation with a player to understand why she's wants a change should be uncommon...otherwise, why do you coach? you’re assuming a conversation would necessarily produce an answer. The reason could be so personal, so trivial, etc. that the SA might choose not to be open about it. As a coach you respect her decision and move on. I don’t think that should diminish Shondell as a coach to any degree.

Agreed. News flash. Players do not tell coaches everything. Especially when they are leaving. Dave was just honest.

Boilers finished in the top ten this year. This was the year the Huskers won the conference championship, but inexplicably lost to Kansas State in the second round. At home. That was such a good match. I remember going to that match and it was so loud in Holloway. I became a big fan of coach Shondell that night. I am a big Husker fan who was lucky enough to attend this match with family. He was extremely gracious in welcoming Nebraska to the B1G Ten and spoke very highly of the players, coaches and program. All that before, beating us in three. He went out of his way to welcome our athletes and praise our program. Very classy. Count me as a fan of Purdue.

Renewed my season tickets!!! I am ready to see some great Purdue style volleyball with an almost all new team. Anxious and hopeful for this next upcoming season.

Seems pretty good/not great to me. Louisville and Utah are obvious pluses, Ball State & Bowling Green led the MAC last year, and Tennessee is strong. Purdue lost a lot and has to have time to jell...I would think Shondell wouldn't want to make them TOO challenged throughout the non-conference, as they're going to need to work on chemistry.
The big question seems like...Who's going to set?

This is more of a weak schedule but there are some good matches there. Totally understandable given how many seniors left last year.

Thanks for your feedbacks. Do you think that they scheduled well enough to have a decent RPI? I wouldn’t want Purdue to miss the NCAA tournament due to having an inferior non-conference schedule. I understand that RPI is very hard to estimate since it includes many factors. I am asking if these teams that did well last season…are they also expected to be as good or better this upcoming season? This upcoming season’s team has to be one of the youngest in experience that I think I have seen in 15 years. Every year you lose 1-5 players maybe…but Purdue lost so much this last season. I think that the transfers that are coming in will be a welcome addition to this team. Some are home town women that wanted to play closer to home. No matter what, I will be cheering the team on this season. Holloway will be rocking and supporting this young team.

Hopefully that shirt meant first B1G matchup *in* Holloway because it was neither our first B1G matchup (Penn State) nor our first B1G matchup with Purdue (beat them in 4 earlier) 😜

When you play in the Big 10, non conference SOS is only a concern for the teams trying to get a top 4 seed or on the bubble for a seed. If the goal is to get into the tournament, then you play a non-conference that maximizes wins, not SOS, because of the potential for so many losses in conference. Also, FWIW, the non conference slate may be lighter on the big names, but many of those teams had good records last year, so it’s actually a solid RPI schedule. The pure geography benefit of a team like Purdue is that they have a number of lower quality D1 teams that end up with solid win/loss records within driving distance. Purdue would have to actually TRY and schedule a bad non-conference slate in terms of raw RPI.

Gonna be fascinating to see how they’re able to reload. Or not. Lots of big shoes to fill, but Jena Otec’s may be the biggest. Who’s gonna play bro?
