Looking at the FIVB rankings for men: - in the top 10 countries, 6 are europeans, 3 are from north + south americas, 1 asian - in the top 20 countries, 9 are europeans (Turkey is in the CEV), 6 are from N+S Americas, 3 from Asia, 1 from Africa (the CAVB) You get 13 countries over 20 who would be pleased to see the VB World Championships being hosted in Qatar. Qatar is ranked 20, Australia... only 31. Say what you want, if the "match" was to be decided between those 2 countries, the most logical decision would go to Qatar. it would be incredibly ironic to take it away from Russia for their actions and then give it to a renowned respecter of human rights such as Qatar. It's a world competition... not a European one. It's been hosted in Europe 6 times since 1974, South America 3 times, Japan twice. North America hasn't hosted since 1974. Oceania has never hosted. How are you supposed to grow the game if the game is not expanding to new places?

How are you supposed to grow the game if the game is not expanding to new places? Start making a REAL league with professionals playing for clubs or franchises like it's done in basket-ball, baseball or american football. The other confederations have confederation clubs league, then each winner faces the others in the FIVB world club championships... the NORCECA is totally absent of that system, how can it be possible to keep your better players at home and REALLY develop the game without switching to the pro sport of VB ? University sport is dead sport, it's an american thing only, the world is way ahead of you.

They dont have the benefits the Euro/Asian teams get. How can NORCECA be expected to grow if the pro game isn't exposed to them? Maybe they are (ahead)... but the university system isn't changing, and USAV/Canada Volleyball can't control that. I'm not even advocating for NORCECA to host. I think Australia would be a great host. My point is, keeping volleyball where its already established, not trying to expand their horizons, isn't a good thing.

(but for real, it's never about human rights but about active events of war)

I'm not so sure that is productive. Russian events, Russian teams, Russian ownership, yes. The athletes are not part of the 'inner circle' actions that make the individual Russian citizen a pariah, should be done with some forethought. The goal isn't make every single person in Russia feel 'ashamed', it's to make them have a productive message to change the leadership or influence the leadership in Russia, and I'm not sure the consequence of banning those athletics is that well thought out. The Russian people will be feeling a sense of desperation, and the goal would not be them to develop the same 'siege' mentality that Russian leadership currently has. Look my friend....the BS Zenit is pulling with Micah right now is unacceptable. The European Market and leagues for Men's and Women's Volleyball (all sports) was just turned on its head because of what the Russian Govt is doing. Players salaries in every league will take a nose dive as the market is flooded with men and women fleeing Russian clubs (and clubs close to Ukraine) and Euro clubs and leagues will take advantage going on the cheap. The more pressure on the Russian people and govt the better because honestly THEY are part of the solution out of this now world mess. Sorry, but the whole of Russia needs to embrace change and NOT the operational iron fist rule dating back to the post Golden Horde years. I'm missing out.. what's going on with Zenit and Micah

On a side note, David Smith and Erik Shoji have been raising money and coordinating efforts to help Ukrainian refugee families in Poland I'm hearing. 👍❤️❤️❤️❤️👏👏👏

nothing is going on with zenit and micah. he is just happy to play in there. tatarstan is much far away from political tension. his kid is going to very fancy school. he is the second captain in the team and his relationship with his teammates is really good. maybe too good lol.

All of our top guys are consummate professionals and work really hard to be great teammates. I fully appreciate your post and positive post and outlook. Glad to hear. I'll be happier when he and his family is home.
