I'm not saying you're wrong. I'm saying I don't think we have enough information yet to really know. The team has played twice, and one of those matches was against Rider, so the sample size for this team against quality opponents is very small. Like I said, let's see what happens tomorrow. It's not about me being right or wrong. I only said that because I was trying to explain that I'm merely making an assessment of what I've seen so far, which is, of course, only based on the scrimmage and two matches they've played. What else would I base it on at this point? My statement was not meant to be an assessment of the entire season, and I was a bit frustrated that you took it that way. However, this reminds of the 2019 season-opening tournament they hosted, when they lost to Marquette in the final, and it was because they could not pass well enough to keep their offense from being completely predictable. They got better in the ensuing weeks, but that first weekend was rough. I don't see this team improving prohibitively in one day. Hopefully that better explains my original statement.
I think this team is probably better than the 2019 team, but we'll see. And I never said you were assessing the entire season. You said that you don't think they can beat Washington State tonight. I'm saying I'm not convinced that's the case. We'll find out soon enough.

Tonight's Duke vs Rider match has been moved to an alternate location at 6 PM ET. Not sure if it will be streamed. I'm glad they're moving so all the student athletes will feel safe.

One of the high schools gyms in the area from what I've heard. I think that makes a stream unlikely, but hopefully they can do something.

Duke lost the first set (-23), and then came back to win the next two (-22, -16). 4th set about to start.

I mean, we weren't going to know how good the passing is or isn't from a match against Rider. We'll see what happens tomorrow night. I haven't watched it yet, so I'll post again when I do, but it looks like Heather Gneiting had a monster match (15-4-22, .500, 5 digs, 5 blocks, 2 aces, 2 digs). Also, I don't think Livingston has played well yet, so hopefully, she'll have a big match and Grimmer will bounce back from getting aced four times. Edit: Duke aced Washington State seven times compared to six aces on BYU. Maybe Duke is just a good serving team? That’s what I think after seeing them play today. If I’m wrong, good. I’d rather be wrong. I was wrong about this team and happy to be so. They made changes more quickly than I thought they would.
I again want to say how much I enjoy seeing Whitney Llarenas doing so well. I have watched her for five years get just a little better each year, and I thought she had reached her peak last year and was impressed with how far she'd come. But what an amazing leap she took from last year to this year. The timing on her slides is so good, and it was always a bit sketchy. What a treat to see her excelling in these matches, and by all accounts she is a very hard worker and a great teammate. I say bravo, Whitney Llarenas.

To talk about volleyball and the BYU team, as they deserve, impressive win over Washington State!

I do think when Grimmer's passing holds up, BYU will be hard to beat and when she passes well BYU looks good.

Yeah, and despite whatever happened, BYU volleyball is good and had nothing to do with that, so I hope they get noticed in a good way for being good!
