Did you see the exhibition? Not trying to be negative to Baylor, genuinely curious of your thoughts? A&M is picked 10th I think in sec, going 5 was a surprise. But I know there are many factors in these tune up games. The sets A&M won were close. Baylor middles K. McGhee and Talbert both hit .500 and the starting outsides Harrison and Simpson both hit over .300. Very balanced offence post-Pressley. Based on the stats, the freshmen rightside Sczech struggled as she hit negative. Baylor gained a spark when they put in E. McGhee at opp. Davis also played a bit but hit under .100, so don't think she sold herself with a starting outside spot. Baylor had a lot of serving errors, particularly from the freshmen. It sounds like some of the struggle was trying to find their line-up. But based on that match at least, it became clear who should start. Baylor also is young. Their growth curve will be good throughout the season but I would not be surprised with some early loses. Baylor was aggressive in hitting and serving vs Texas. I have to guess they had at least 15 SE, but they did put pressure on Texas. 2 of the 5 sets were close, without Harrison. My takeaway was they will be young but they will come out swinging.

I do not think this match is being televised in general unfortunately, unless something changes this week. It might/should be televised on ESPN+. We are waiting for them to update the schedule to include the link. Baby steps! Link now included: gophersports.com/sports/womens-volleyball/schedule

I voted Minnesota 3-1 and that was me being optimistic. While I don’t predict a win, I do think this team goes down swinging. The team is young, but all of the new players except for Denney and Talbert have been training on campus since January which means Carlson has been establishing connections for 7+ months now and the other young players have been getting reps in a competitive practice gym. The freshmen all played prominent roles in spring matches, and if you didn’t catch the game against Texas, it was a grand environment for spring. While Baylor didn’t take a set off of UT, they only lost two of the sets by 2 points and played really competitive volleyball. That was back in April and they were without Harrison and Talbert. I’m hoping that spring experience + playing at a neutral site (a familiar gym only 1.5 hours away from Waco) will lessen the jitters some. Did you see the exhibition? Not trying to be negative to Baylor, genuinely curious of your thoughts? A&M is picked 10th I think in sec, going 5 was a surprise. But I know there are many factors in these tune up games. I was not able to attend the exhibition match so I only have a second hand perspective on what the team looked like. But keep in mind, Baylor was playing with 5 freshmen in their lineup. It was their first time suiting up and playing in front of a home crowd. If anything, they showed they have the mental fortitude it takes to win a 5th set, and over an A&M team that actually has talent on the roster (as they seem to do every year). Every early match is going to have some growing pains for this team. And McGuyre seems to have a really positive outlook on that: “The youthfulness is both a blessing and a challenge and we love challenges. That’s where we grow. So we have the opportunity to grow more because we’re young. But the blessing of the youthfulness is there’s a freshness, a liveliness, just kind of a vigor in the gym to get better.” sicem365.com/s/12990/volleyball-quotes-and-notes-coach-mcguyre-and-players-meet-with-media/6Though, I don’t expect to win either of these first two matches, what a great chance to challenge the youth early and provide more growing opportunities. My biggest concern with the youth is who steps up and takes a leadership role on the court. Harrison and McGhee aren’t incredibly vocal players. Talbert is new to the program but maybe she steps in. McGuyre has said she relates to the freshmen incredibly well. Nonetheless, I’m excited to experience the start of this new era of Baylor volleyball.

Looks like the gophersports .com website just recently pushed a major cosmetic overhaul. In any case, if you go to the vball schedule: gophersports.com/sports/womens-volleyball/schedule/2022You can click the other "view type" in the top right. There (now, at least, as of this moment) is no ESPN+ link for the Baylor game shown in the "TV" column.

I’ll sa this…I love Baylor’s chances going forward. The coach is a star, his staff is smart, and they recruit very well. I won’t be surprised if these young kids give the Gophers a real fight. But my instinct tells me that if an experienced and talented Minnesota goes on a few big runs, it’ll be hard for a young Baylor team to keep pace, and it’ll end up being a short night for them. 3-1 Minnesota.

The more people besiege them emails, the better chance there is. The camera crew is going to be there anyway. Not sure if on-air commentators will be live in person or from the studio. They’d have to hire them for the two additional games. Work out if TCU or whom gets the extra revenue (maybe none). Probably a bit of work to get done at this point. They’ve known all along that these two “off” matches would be far more popular than the TCU games. To me makes it seem like it would go against the Big 12 Now agreement or something of that sort. Perhaps the tournament agreement itself.

It seems that the web page for the schedule has been updated. I'm not sure I like it. Anyway, there is no ESPN+ listed next to the game anymore and there is no watch link.

Well that just sucks - I had clicked on the ESPN+ link when it was there, and it actually took me to a ESPN landing page that looked like it just wasn't ready to start yet.

I was considering getting a subscription to ESPN+ for the volleyball season. Now I'm just not. I'm too annoyed.

Is anyone going able to do a Facebook live? I can’t imagine not being able to watch the season opener…

They most likely dont have any say in the decision. It seems to be related to ESPN tv rights. (which is what was said about Hawaii's matches in Texas AM not being shown). You're probably better off directing that to ESPN I dont see too many links, but here's one for ESPN+ help.espnplus.com/espnplus_hc
