Someone check on Emily Ehmen Honestly, that's what it's like watching volleyball in a nutshell. Reminds me of the video of the kids in some a bar in Madison watching match point in the NC. Those kinds of points are such dramas, with arcs and cliffhangers and, at last, resolution. It's a real advertisement for the sport.

If I never have to watch Husemann take an overpass and free ball it back to the other team, I would be okay with that.

As an aside, having Pedro Mendes and Shane Davis in the same gym should be illegal. I hear Paris is lovely this time of year Been twice in September. Can confirm.

Back from the match not even disappointed because the team that wanted to win did VERY WELL DONE NW... and Temi T.A. had a very poor stat night in H% the team that didn't want to lose lost The season is long and this will hopefully turn out to be a good lesson.
I can understand not being able to marshal the energy and spirit displayed Sunday night vs WI On Sunday they took OOS passes and put up attackable bump sets. tonight NW did the same. unlike Orzol they didn't hit right into a block (as much)
MN played like they knew they were a better team and expected to prevail over the long course.
4 things stand out... glaringly beside the switch i've been harping about for weeks
Without service pressure opponents run a quicker offense and it gets difficult for a MB to close But Gopher MBs aren't closing even when the opponents aren't running fast
Landfair was lazy. She was the poster child for tonight's overall performance: lackluster. A handful of times she sent a free ball over, rather than reposition herself to take a rip. She touched balls going out, she took uncharacteristically sick swings into the net. and unlike Sunday, when she WENT FOR IT, tonite she didn't feel like executing hard driven shots much. I have no problem with her as a 6 rotation player. her passing is improving. but can't she stay off the 3 meter line on beautiful tandems where she has an open court to swing into? I will look forward to rewatching this one trying to figure out why it keeps happening
Husemann 4 0 14 probably could have been 9 0 14 by terminating more of the 4 overpasses she didn't convert and taking more aggressive swings. She and Shaff have been giving it more of a go this year and that's good. She had one good strike later in the match (first point of the 4th?). After reviewing the entire match it's clear that Husemann's terminality is dependent on better sets. Booth, with here greater wingspan and higher vertical has more time to make swing adjusments when her sets are less ideal. even mild mannered Molly Lohman was known to take a swing on overpasses I might understand a role as more of a blocking specialist if she wasn't leaving seams left, middle, and right. She just seems overmatched this year Maybe the issue is our expectations
Coaching stubbornness Davis came in for Husemann at 10-15 in the 4th. I'm not going to scroll back to when it was obvious she was 'off', but she should have been pulled MUCH sooner. How much rope do you give an athlete who is struggling? btw, I think it was correct to reinsert her in the 5th at 9-9 for continuity's sake I don't think it is healthy (e.g in set 4) to let a team run off 7 pts in a row and then 5 of the next 6 before you put in a sub. Hugh has been more animated and parental. A good parent needs to give more "time outs" when a player, or a squad, needs one. Even something non-intuitive like inserting Crowl on the right for a point or two...just to change the 'aji' (flavor on the court)
not glaring but Shaff was pretty wonderfully offensive on Sunday. Tonite offensive. Not very focused. A few nice sets on the right to Wenaas. too many routine sets that NW was eventually able to turn into blocks

The amount of times I’ve replayed Thomas-Ailara’s smash at 10-10 in the fifth should be illegal. She actually put some mustardddd on that ball. SHEESH!

I am going to lose respect for Hugh if he can’t appreciate that Wenaas belongs on the left and Wookie can excel anywhere 22-25 She hit .208 last season and is hitting .199 this season so seems like she’s just kind of going to be the same no matter where you put her.

Nah you’re right, congrats to Miller, Rousseau, and Dodson only for battling tonight. The rest of the team were watching them in bewilderment and should not be acknowledged.

Wisconsin game was the Gophers Super Bowl. They celebrated with a little extra zeal and thought they were all that. Minnesota wins 8-9 times out of 10 against the Cats.

I really have no idea what the heck to expect from any team not named Texas or Louisville at this point, and even they have had their off nights. Congrats to Northwestern on the win. I was happy the Badgers got the sweep at home against them and was fine being done with them for the regular season after that.

yea but we already knew Kentucky sucked Tonight? There is the Skinner, Shondell, Johnson-Lynch proviso with their respective programs that, no matter how upset fans may be with how they are doing at the moment, you still need a telescope to see where the programs were before they took over from where they are now.
