I favor UW, but would be surprised if this is a sweep. Even against TCU, a match which UW dominated, there was a set where TCU started to play better and took it to 23-25. PSU has more weapons and some real fighting attitude. The badgers used to just slice through teams with their first side out efficiency. Now they grind teams down by extending points and letting the block or transition win the point, or letting the other team error out. They wait for the moment to land a killer blow, playing really clean and knocking the other team on their heels for long periods until they make a mistake or give the initiative over. It's a very different style of play. It a resilient style of play, but if opposing teams can string a few really scrappy plays together, start passing, and error less, they can match up for a time. I think PSU is a little too error prone to win a match, but they can definitely tilt the court for a set, maybe two, especially of the badgers serve lets up. I’ll also say that Williams for Penn State only knows one speed. No Abbie Jackson tip drills for her. You don’t have to worry about her aggressiveness, but you do have to worry about hitting errors against that Badger block.

I can see you really don't want to meet the Badgers in F4.
I hear somebody at the concession stand last night saying "I don't wanna see Texas this year". And I thought "I do!". If Wisconsin sees Texas, it means we're playing for the championship. Sign me up!! Nebraska in the final four? Heck, yeah! We're at the Final Four! I absolutely want to face Texas with the championship on the line. You want to beat the best and Texas seems like the best team. Though to be fair I'd settle for facing anyone in that match, and if, say, Stanford or USD get to that game it will look like maybe that team was actually the better team and it would be great to face them too. But honestly, if we make the Final Four the tournament and year as a whole will be a success, any wins there are gravy imo. I'm sure the players and Sheff don't think that way though.

Badgers have never beaten PSU in post season. KSC has never beaten WI. We have two heartbreaks left to clear. PSU. Stanford. Let's get this one done. Unfortunately, Stanford and Wisconsin won’t be facing anymore this season given the bracket. Next year though might be a little more difficult as Stanford returns its entire starting line up plus a top recruiting class.

This makes no sense. They could meet in the final.

This makes no sense. They could meet in the final. You are correct. Apologies. I was thinking Texas winning it all while typing this. Anything can happen!

The Badgers appear to be peaking at the right time, and as a Wisconsin fan, I like our prospects this week. Serving and reception has improved markedly in my view, over the last 6-8 matches. The setting has become much more consistent as well, and the Izzy/MJ 6-2 combination has become more seamless, as the last few in-conference matches have shown. I can't tell if blocking has improved necessarily. But the Badgers continue to be an extremely good blocking team as expected.
To top it all off, the Badgers are delivering impressive hitting performances. I compiled the numbers for the last eight matches, for our top five. Here is what I came up with...
K/E/TA/Pct Hart, Danielle 58/5/93/.563375 Robinson, Devyn 74/24/173/.2805 Franklin, Sarah 79/27/245/.221125 Orzol, Julia 55/16/172/.216375 Smrek, Anna 49/8/98/.435 TOTALS – LAST8 315/80/781/.343275

I never thought Wisconsin could go 19-1 in the B1G, beat Nebraska twice, get by Ohio State at home, etc. I never, ever thought Wisconsin would host the Regional. It was a big ask to get all the talent on the floor in a 6-2 and then weather enough storms to see it fit together under pressure regularly. Now it looks like resilience, flexibility and the deep bench that's ready to play can keep the Badgers in a match with most any opponent. I hope to see a decisive win against Penn State, but I think it's going to be a win either way. And, given Wisconsin's history with Penn State, Badger fans should revel in it. Next? Throw that flexible, resilient squad at Pitt or Florida with 7500 fans behind them, and see if they can get to the Final Four 4 years in a row. It's basically all icing on the cake after this weekend. 🎉

It looks like she is getting set high enough at last, and she is getting her feet to the ball and finding the court. On the other side the defense looks really solid right now. PSU was perhaps a recent exception to that, but we didn't have Crawford for that match. She makes a difference.

It's highly underrated how much of an anchor Crawford is, and how having her in the lineup clicks all the other pieces into place. She plays at such a level of calm it's sometimes ridiculous (which appears to just be a personality trait since, you know, SHE WATCHED HER HAND GET CUT OPEN)

Smrek is doing a better job lately of getting to the middle more often to hit, where she is more effective, but blocking on the outside, where she is more effective. And the setters are getting her the ball where she can be effective.

I agree, that connection helps us put considerably more pressure on opponent during those rotations.

Her game face often is emotionless. Very dialed in. Reminds me of Hilley in a way.
