I think we grab a middle from the portal, and pray that the setters spend the off season practicing setting Anna higher.

I meant MJ sets across the front and Izzy subs in to set across the back. I don’t see what that gains us - from what Punzel said, MJ isn’t a great blocker. And a 5-2 loses us her serve. This has always been my problem with the 5-2. I just don't see an upside with Hammill in the front row relative to Smrek or Robinson. Yes, she has problems with passes close to the net. The answer there is not to pass close to the net. The badgers will get better passing and setting. It always takes time. I think it was Hilley's third season when I finally thought she hit her stride. These two have been in Madison longer, but they haven't been starting, and splitting time has to add something to the learning curve. We'll see what the transfer portal brings though.

It was probably CC's transfer that led to Demps entering the portal in the end. If that didn't happen, Smrek or Robinson would be in the middle, Demps would be hitting out of the RS and Wrobel would be the backup/competition. That's what I thought would happen anyway. But I agree, CC just allows the team to play better. I hope her finger recovers.
I never understood why Demps doesn't block better. She has the athleticism.

I really don't think they need "rescuing" or that their game needs much changing.

We absolutely cannot compete without better passing and defense. Texas would have swept us, too.

Jenna Wenaas is in the portal! Talk about an upgrade at a pin! She'd most certainly push Julia to DS and with a setter, make 5-1 work.

If we could have serve received decent it would have been fun to watch us against Texas. Our size up front would have been a challenge for them. They win I think but they don't sweep us.

She isn't good enough to beat out Landfair, POY in the BIG, and Wurcherer, another true number one recruit who was best hitter in the world for 2021 u-18. Give me a fricken break. 🙄

That's the thing. We cannot serve receive with GG and Franklin. They break down again good serving teams and Texas was one of the best.
