I read somewhere a while back that Wisconsin is returning the Florida match to Gainesville along with going to Marquette to play them in Fiserv the Big10/Big12 challenge is during opening week, and either Wisconsin or Minnesota is hosting (or playing) baylor and tcu Is Baylor/TCU/Minnesota a FOUR year thing? They've all already done two years worth. (If it is four years, this year would likely be in Minnesota.) I fully forgot that they played in madison already so this year is Minnesota and then it ends in Waco in 2024

I still think Orzol has a major chance to start, for a few reasons: 1. Passing. 2. Passing. 3. Passing. 4. Floor Defense. 5. She is pretty good against single blocks and we have enough depth that we can afford to play a glue OH who doesn't need to beat double blocks consistently. Either TTA or Franklin will get a look at Opposite - they are too good to just let one sit on the bench behind the other, and both already can hit from the right - they both sometimes do already in Rotation 1 (when the opposite is left front). Plus, it gives us more options in case of injury. Last season was actually fairly light injury-wise for UW, despite the temporary setbacks for CC and GG. That being said, there is a world where TTA and Franklin are the OH's and you just rely on always having maximum power and just make passing work the best you can. It worked for Texas last year with Skinner and Eggleston, after all. We don't know how Damrow affects this, but it is a little hard to imagine UW passing at all without Orzol.

While waiting to see if this would happen, I was thinking about this question, and I can't think of one: in the Sheffield era, has there ever been a transfer who knocked a starter/regular off the floor? I can't think of one. Of course there have been transfers, and they might have kept a bench player who would otherwise have been 'promoted' to starter/regular. But I can't think of a starter/regular bumped off the floor by a transfer. Franklin and Demps is maybe the closest, but Demps' role through the 2021 season wasn't for the most part that of a starter/regular etc. So, am I forgetting anyone, or does this have the potential to be 'new'? Morey. Clark. Barnes.

Trying to remember who Clark may have displaced. Are we thinking ME Dodge? I mean, she looked great early in her first season, but messed up her knee and was never entirely as mobile or confident afterward. I'd point to Bates displacing Morales at OH as the first real obvious case. Also Carlini displacing Thomas at setter. Both displaced players still played really big roles.

Clark replacing Bates, who returned to playing left.

I don't know what I think. Am I supposed to think more about the competitiveness of the team, or the impact on the existing players that committed? I dunno. One thing is for sure, it's a business. I just have to figure out if I like that or not.

This TTA news…good problem to have of course. But what lineup do they use? Franklin or TTA on the right? Does this mean Robinson back to the middle? Do Smrek and/or Crawford sit? It will be very interesting to see how this works…

I could see Orzol DS but then situationally staying in and playing across the front - the situations being short on subs or wanting her passing

She subs for either Franklin or TTA to boost passing depending on their numbers as a DS and then maybe plays that Demps role next year and stays in when we run low?

Neither Bates nor Carlini was a transfer. I think Clark replaced Bates, who could then go back to left for her senior year. Bates would have preferred playing at OH. She was an emergency libero because Dodge got hurt. That was not her preferred position. Hard to see that as a replacement. Also, Bates was originally committed to Dayton. It was nip and tuck whether Kelly would take her at UW when he moved. That situation is like Morey who was recruited by Kelly when at Dayton, then went to ND until he moved from Dayton to UW. I don't see much difference between those cases, except Morey spent a year at ND. I think it's hard to compare such situations to one where an existing starter gets pushed to the bench from her preferred position, without injury playing a role. The only case I can legitimately think of where any starter under any situation gets pushed from a preferred position under Sheffield is Bates and Morales. I'm not sure I can remember the names of the DSs that got displaced. Amber MacDonald? Sarah Dodd?

They all displaced someone as a DS. I'll dig up who in a bit, unless you can refresh my memory. Again, my question was a starter/regular displayed by a transfer. You're saying each of Morey, Clark and Barnes did that? In reverse order in time: -In 2018, Clark was the libero and ME Dodge was the 'primary' DS, When Barnes transferred in in 2019, Clark remained at libero, and while Dodge was maybe not the 'primary' DS, she played in 115 of 116 sets as a DS (as part of the infamous "O-line"). So whether that answer fits my question... - In 2016, Bates played libero primarily, with Haggerty and Gilles the lefts. When Clark transferred in in 2017, she became the libero and Bates went back to playing left side, filling the spot opened by Haggerty's injury. No starter/regular was displaced. - When Morey transferred in in 2013, Hickey was the libero and (except for a handful of matches when Hickey was hurt) Morey played DS. The 'primary' DS in 2012 was Caroline Workman, but she was injured for much of 2013 and her role was taken up by Morey and KT Kvas. (Kvas saw less playing time in 2014, when Sheffield played both lefts six rotation, but that wasn't because of Morey, who moved to libero in 2014). So, injuries and "time" make this a bit more confused, but I don't see Morey costing any regular playing time when she transferred in in 2013.
