"Franklin can’t play in ‘25. She played in four non-Covid years."
This is from the Michigan State Volleyball official site:
FRESHMAN (Spring 2021): Appeared in just seven matches (26 sets) as a true freshman before her season ended prematurely due to an injury ... Had six double-digit kill efforts and two double-doubles through the first seven matches of the season before an injury ended her season prematurely.
Does this still count as her year 1? Thanks.

The 2021 spring doesn’t count for Franklin bc of the covid rule. Fall 2021 and Fall 2022 do. So she has Fall 2023 and Fall 2024 remaining.

Don't quote my "half" post. Now go read again and check your list of players.
ill check my list again then... pitt was not what they are now before gray transferred, and blossom did not go to San Diego realistically with her eyes set on a natty, and fields obviously left a top team. but you want to get into players who have left teams going for rings that DIDNT play? ya know bc wrobel doesnt play.... well thats a much longer list. at this point it looks like wrobel at the earliest gets a spot in 2025, since orzol and Franklin are there through 2024, pretty sure Franklin has the covid year an can play in 2025 if she wants. by then wrobel is a senior. the fact youre so sure that a player wouldn't want to leave just bc their teammates haven't won a natty yet just doesnt make sense. you think demos would've stayed at wisco through her final two year playing here and there if they didn't win in 2021? I dont
I have a longer list of players that didn't play and stayed in the handful of elite programs.

that were as highly recruited as wrobel? please share. walk-ons staying is an entirely different story as they are not *usually* seeing themselves as being big time role players on the floor

Awesome reception for the 4x Defending Champs @ the Men's BB game today. I'm not sure if you'll hit the paywall, but I'm going to stay signed into Madison.com until I shut down for the night [currently 8:23 PM PST]. That should allow you to see the video. madison.com/#tncms-source=login

Apparently unpopular opinion coming. Franklin hit .230 and was primarily a roll shot artist on all non perfect sets the last half of the season. And she is, for want of a more eloquent description, a bad passer, bad defender, and bad server. Orzol cannot score at this level, but does bring effective back row play. The thought that Wrobel is permanently stuck behind these two is foreign to me. Before TTA, I thought probably a 90% chance Wrobel starts over one of them next year. While none of us are in the gym, I just assumed a certain level of talent based on descriptions of people who evaluate talent for a living. TTA does throw a spanner in the works: Wrobel has to beat out both Franklin and Orzol. But I still give that a decent 40-50% chance. I just don't understand the view that she isn't good enough to play at Wisconsin, but there are tons of top programs where she could easily win a job and be a star.

This is, I guess, the volleyball equivalent of the second-string quarterback being the most popular guy in town.

But it was only Wrobel’s freshman year, I definitely was expecting to see big strides from her. She came to UW in the fall & now she has had a fall season with the badgers & will get spring season, plus another fall season to improve. So really, it is not that big of a reach

In a 6-2, the OHs must pass and hit and play D and serve all at some reasonably effective level, because they will play 6 rotations in the badgers system. The OHs aren't going to get hidden in SR -- the badgers are not passing with two anytime soon and at this point I don't see the badgers seeing a DS in the BR to be worth the cost in subs.
I imagine we haven't seen Wrobel because she wasn't as good at that balance as Demps. Demps' attacking and D were very good, but her passing was not good enough to permanently unseat Franklin or Orzol at OH. On the RS, Demps' blocking just wasn't strong enough. She really was perfect for the backrow role in Fall 2021.
TTA has not really shown that balance thus far in her career either, IMO. That's why I think she may go to the right.
I think Wrobel is a viable option on the left IF she can handle the BR duties at all. We haven't even seen her do that, so we don't know, but I have to guess if she was behind Demps that she had a ways to go, because Demps herself had a ways to go. If she can't improve enough, she will have to wait for Feuerbringer to bring back the 5-1 in 2024 before she has a shot.

So really, it is not that big of a reach right, orzol has an entire year more of this experience you're valuing and played 6 on a team that won the natty, and Franklin is one of the better OHs in the ncaa with 2 more years of experience than wrobel... I think it's 100% most likely that Franklin and orzol remain above wrobel in the depth chart
