Thanks to katn for finding and sharing this terrific interview with Erin Virtue. It's fun to see Cathy George interviewing the Michigan HC; Mick Haley and Bill Walton are gems in this. Because she touches on so many things directly relevant to the 2023 program, I thought it would be good to share here too: Lots of interesting details from this: - She's hiring a second AC who should be revealed in the next week - Mark Rosen started the 2023 schedule; she is holding onto existing commitments - She met with Mruzik and Robinson before they committed elsewhere - She is speaking with May Pertofsky who has not yet decided what she wants to do (!) - Looking at a couple of players in the portal - Vaulet likely to be used at OH (this especially makes sense if Pertofsky returns) - She's relying on her staff to carry the ball while she is off on Team USA duties Erin comes across great, she has been saying and doing all of the right things early in her tenure. A cold splash of reality is likely to hit this spring and fall given the current roster, but Michigan made a great hire. Erin Virtue stated in this interview that a couple more players entered the portal before it closed (other than Pertofsky). Does anyone know who entered the portal? I presumed this was in reference to the two Jesses that have already announced their move. As of the Jan. 20 video we have Johnson, Nyambio, Boney, Cuchran, Jacobs, Chopra, Humphrey, and Simmons. Grant was out at that point due to her tragic family matter, and Murray has posted about the different hirings on her socials. Not sure there's anyone else to go into the portal.

The spring schedule has been released.
Great to get the lone home match in Crisler... Hope that's indicative of the future!
Will EMU have its coach in place by the time they come to Crisler? I'd love to go to Chicago for the Loyola weekend. They were a tough squad and ran away with the A10.

Michigan had a lot transfer out - any rumblings about potential transfers in to fill those gaps?

Michigan had a lot transfer out - any rumblings about potential transfers in to fill those gaps? Unless someone new has left, so far it has been one graduate transfer and Mruzik. Pertofsky is in the portal but sounds like Michigan is on her list of potential places. Wouldn't be surprised if she ended up somewhere out west closer to home. Frustratingly enough, there isn't much in terms of rumblings on potential incoming transfers. I'd suspect when the portal opens back up in May we'll see a few more names jump in that could be potential help.

According to this article Mruzik is finishing her Michigan degree early... this spring. So, she'll be a graduate transfer, too. dignittanyvolleyball.com/jess-mruzik-transfers-to-penn-state-volleyball/

Yes, technically. Two years of eligibility remaining, so her situation is different from the other two grad transfers from Michigan's program.

I think the biggest need is at OH. We could use a walk on back up setter also. We might get a fill gap player from the portal for one season. But 2023 is going to be rough, Erin will need to build this team from scratch and it might take a few years.

Kennedy Louisell from FaR Out/Legacy just decommitted from UNCG? Think she could be a good fit for Erin and Michigan?

I am sorry, but this program plays in a three-sided shoebox and their training facilities are unacceptable. It is sad that the Rosen’s weren’t able to convince the Michigan administration to upgrade the facilities to keep up with the rest of the B1G… and so they were fired… and now they have hired a HC so unqualified as to be obscenely inept. This hire is an unmistakable downgrade. This was a middle of the pack B1G program and the Michigan administration hired a part time coach…huh?… This will the unquestionably be the worst program in the B1G in 2 years…but this will be welcomed by Rutgers 🏐 sorry

While I do agree about the facilities etc Virtue is an upgrade over the Rosens. I haven’t heard much if any great of things about them but looking at their track record, rosens were there how long and were always the team that had the talent but underperformed. The last few years were just the same story of them lacking at one piece of the puzzle. If they had an elite setter recruited w the COVID freshman class things would’ve shaped out differently. Let’s not %*$# on a coach until they got a year down (see JFO)

Erin Virtue has always been a winner, in every sense of the word, and will continue to be. Now go climb back under the rock from where you came

Nice to see Erin out on the street selling those Chiclets. I'm very interested in seeing who will be playing as back up setter. This spring lineup will look nothing like what we will have on the floor in the fall.
