I could be wrong, but I just dont see them going with anyone other than Mike. Mike is already there and the girls want him and have voiced it. I am not saying I agree with that idea....but BC isnt going to make a big move that will get rid of Mike unless its a homerun finalist he is against. Just how BC operates.
The people I instantly thought of when the job opened making a beeline were BOTH Eve and Tyler. Tyler has been in the shadow of Eve for years and has what it takes to run a program. But Eve has stated her dream was to return to UNC. And she hasnt lit it up at Tennessee. I think Tyler has accepted the fact that Todd isnt leaving UCF, his alma mater.
I am preparing myself for Mike, not that it would be a bad hire, but I still am cautious after he served on the staff the last 5 years and we really didnt do anything on the national stage.
I was told we are down to Mike and 2 External Finalists. I actually think we may have a decision by the end of the week.

Wouldn’t that mean that he wasn’t their guy right off the bat and after interviewing candidates they settled with him? It sure seems like if they felt “this is the guy to lead us” they just would have named him, like Arizona did.

My understanding is that Schall was a serious candidate from the start but that UNC wanted to explore some women head coach possibilites. If true, that makes some sense to me. The only names other than Schall that I have heard as real candidates are consistent with this understanding.

Kind of surprised they didn't just name Mabrey the head coach with the way UNC is going these days. She can call a TO from the floor and just head over the bench and be like "Guys set me the ball, I won't get blocked this time, promise."

She is only 21 or so and you don’t get to be a HC at UNC until the ripe old age of 22 or 23 🤣🤣🤣

The opportunity to become HC weighed in his original decision to join staff. Doesnt make it a guarantee though. There are also 3 former assistants that are present HC's, so UNC owed it to them and the program to explore interest and find the best fit. Takes time.

At this point I really think we may be down to a 2 person race. I think that Mike, Eve, and several other were all interested. But I definitely think this comes down to Eve and Mike. I can confirm that Eve was in the finalist round. Could there by a dark horse (Alvey, Lindsey)? Sure, but not likley IMO.
Eve has head coaching experience, although limited, but proved she could take UNC to the national stage. Mike has been a solid recruiter and although we haven't done well on the court, we have top notch athletes still coming to UNC. I also think that the core group we have will stay at UNC if Mike is named HC. Eve is very abrasive and edgy...she is intense. Mike is mellow and very "good guyish." So that is 2 very drastic cultures. I think that if it is down to those 2, which it may or may not, BC must decide if he wants a complete reset for the longevity of the program or if he wants a partial reset with stability from the start. We all know if Eve does come that her entire staff will come with her unless Adams takes over Tenn. Just speculation
This hire is taking longer than most.

I listed 7 because that's who won in the last 10 years. Seally and McLaughlin's wins are from another era (and you could make that argument for Rose's too but he's got too many to ignore). Sheffield was a sweet 16 coach, power 5/6 or not, and Dunning - saying he didn't coach power 5 is a problem in your argument, there was no power 5 back then and he won two national championships so he was "Power 1" in a different generation. Minnesota, Oklahoma, Missouri and Texas A&M were probably the most well funded schools hiring this year and 3 hired college head coaches and one hired an international coach with head experience and paired him with a P5 head coach as associate head coach. There are other good hires, I'm not saying you have to go this way, but when the championships are going to head coaches and the most well funded schools are choosing head coaches I don't understand how only looking at assistants is a strategy to instant success, as was suggested. When was Sheffield a sweet sixteen coach? I thought his Dayton team made it around 2010 but it looks like they lost in 5 to Ohio State. My mistake.

Why would Eve leave UT unless UNC is going to seriously step up their investment level?
