Joe cannot be mad at her for that. She left for a promotion. He refused to promote Tyler because he was bringing in Mike as the first assistant. So, Tyler also left for a promotion. And he knew if Eve was leaving Gavin was leaving. That is ridiculous if that is what he's upset about. He cannot be mad at people leaving for promotions if he's not willing to advance them. I heard it from multiple people that Tyler wanted to stay at UNC but Joe refused to give him the jump. I'm not sure if she did anything else to burn bridges though. But I do remember a lot of the former players were very vocal in their support of Eve when she was named the head coach at Tennessee, and we lost a lot of players after she left. So she may be edgy, but it's hard to argue against the players liking her. Tyler did want to stay. But you don’t put Tyler ahead of Mike. Tyler didn’t really like that. Timing doesn’t always work out. Jen Petrie would love to come back but she’s long rooted back home in San Diego. Timing doesn’t always work out. Jen Petrie was on the dream list for me, too. But it's hard to move away from San Diego! |

I genuinely hope she succeeds wildly bc obv that’s a much more interesting outcome. No reason to want her to fail, it just feels a bit too “ok I’ve seen this before” to me. Don’t know if it has been mentioned but now-retired UNC FH Coach Shelton had the same or similar stellar career (West Chester State) then was hired at 23 as HC- that turned out pretty well. So I agree it’s crazy but ballsy, optimistic, loyal and a great story. If it doesn’t work then they were wrong or things just went wrong- but if it does…. I think they took a calculated risk because they believe she has the potential to do more than she’s already done and they want that to happen in CH. There are things you just can’t teach a player, and there are things you just can’t teach a coach. Maybe she’s got it! but also hiring young coaches at that time was literally the only option bc for non-revenue sports they paid like $12K a year (literally). geno auriema and muffet mcgraw talk all the time about how their WBB wins records probably will never be touched, because hiring a 24-26 year old to be your wbb head coach just doesn't happen anymore. Like I said, I hope she succeeds. |

To be fair, the US isn't really a top contender in Women's Field Hockey (or Men's, for that matter) and would not realistically be likely to medal in an Olympics. I grew up in Field Hockey Mecca and the US has not ever really been on the upper end of the international stage in the sport. On a side note: I tried field hockey for about two weeks until someone told me I had to wear a skirt and couldn't hit anyone with the stick. I noped my way right out of there. Also, really not a sport for tall people  there’s men’s field hockey ? It's a very good watch in the Olympics  |

One possibility is that an announcement happens very soon. All interviewing ended last week.
Unless...another option is that the search has been reopened. I doubt that this true but the delay at this point is not easy (for me) to understand.

There is so much more to the Joe, Eve saga than what is floating around. They may be cordial now but Eve did Joe wrong several times. And Eve has some Susan tendencies. That would make me apprehensive.
My understanding is as one stated, Eve is no longer involved. Its still Mike and one or two women.
Oh and Jen Pietre did get a call.
