I dont think they elevate Schall.
I think they are going to post and go after a big name. I am not thinking this will be a long national search...

Bubba always has in mind who he wants....I just hope he makes a Banghart hire for WVball.

What would VT consider are upsides/downsides of UNC VB? In my relatively uneducated view, it seems like a very good job. Strong brand, good school, decent and improving conference, some previous success - though they haven't been able to quite "level jump" yet. Not sure about VB support or how they'd pay a new coach.

What a genuinely wonderful human being, excellent coach, and all-around excellent motivator and tactician. It's been awesome to follow her career! She was also one heck of a squash player. Helped teach me how to play and proceeded to kick my butt for an entire year. I got good enough to beat most of our staff, but never her. She was crazy competitive.

All you stated Pros: Brand, High Academics, Strong RPI Conference, Growing Club Scene in North Carolina with a strong pipeline potential, alumni support, tons of resources for student athletes Cons: Salary: This should not be an issue for UNC but Joe was not paid well. Salary will need to increase dramatically

My hunch is they will look to bring in a female head coach. I'm going to go with Brittany Dildine. Rumor has it she went after the NC State job a couple of years ago but then turned them down. UNC is a better job and the success the ACC has been having with Louisville and Pitt in the Final Four makes the ACC more attractive than it used to be. If they don't bring in a female coach, I personally like to see Ryan Theis coach at UNC. Regardless, the coach will be inheriting a lot of talent. i'm hearing Dildine upon every open HC position. What's her accomplishments?

Pros: National athletics brand (one of maybe a dozen nationwide) Good weather Good enough school to attract smart kids, big enough sports school to get not smart kids admitted Not the B1G or SEC Carmichael is the perfect size for volleyball Cons: Budget and salary are behind the top of the league, let alone top of the nation Carmichael is ancient and facilities in general are just OK Not the B1G or SEC It's a great job, all told.

So if the Houks come over - would Melani join them to play with her sister - and add another setter to the mix? Nope Mabrey transfers to UMN <3 (my overall health cannot take losing Shaff from MN) Mel wouldn't leave now. I could see her potentially doing it next year for her 5th year.

She's been with Sheffield for a long time and she's been at Wisconsin the entire time as they've elevated the program back to the elite. She's been in charge of their recruiting - which I think you can see the players she's able to get - and in charge of their defense which is always one of the biggest strengths of their team.

Well if they do go for a "big name" they'll have to address salary and department support. Those are the two biggest hurdles if you're going to catch up with the rest of the conference.

Do they elevate Schall? I could see them doing that. 100% this route. He is excellent. Has zero head coaching experience. You believe he could be excellent, which I don’t disagree with.

At that point UNC would have a 6-0 lefty setter with two years of experience (if Babic stays, of course). Babic was a top-15 recruit and started playing well as the year went on, and has a tremendous upside if she can learn to attack consistently at the net while running the offense. I cannot imagine a coach would have a setter come in for one year and take the ball out of the hand of a very good and capable setter in the middle of their career. I understand 6-0" is not 6-3", but that would be a stretch IMO.

It was speculated Eve Rackham was the coach-in-waiting while at UNC. I wouldn't be surprised if she returned or got a "contract extension" from Tennessee.
