100% this route. He is excellent. Has zero head coaching experience. You believe he could be excellent, which I don’t disagree with. It's hard to imagine what he could do with the program when they have only one postseason appearance in the five or six year's he's been the top assistant. Especially considering Joe has very well been known to be a CEO coach and allow the assistants to run a lot of the program. But you never know.

It was speculated Eve Rackham was the coach-in-waiting while at UNC. I wouldn't be surprised if she returned or got a "contract extension" from Tennessee. After the player posted about the program culture at Tennessee with Eve, I am not sure if many people would really want her back.

Mel wouldn't leave now. I could see her potentially doing it next year for her 5th year. At that point UNC would have a 6-0 lefty setter with two years of experience (if Babic stays, of course). Babic was a top-15 recruit and started playing well as the year went on, and has a tremendous upside if she can learn to attack consistently at the net while running the offense. I cannot imagine a coach would have a setter come in for one year and take the ball out of the hand of a very good and capable setter in the middle of their career. I understand 6-0" is not 6-3", but that would be a stretch IMO. Sure, that makes sense. Was just seeing it from Mel's side, not necessarily UNC's side.
I do hope the Houk's are considered for this, I think this could be a good fit. They'd bring in a very good culture and I think that would be highly beneficial to UNC right now.

What would VT consider are upsides/downsides of UNC VB? In my relatively uneducated view, it seems like a very good job. Strong brand, good school, decent and improving conference, some previous success - though they haven't been able to quite "level jump yet. Not sure about VB support or how they'd pay a new coach. All you stated Pros: Brand, High Academics, Strong RPI Conference, Growing Club Scene in North Carolina with a strong pipeline potential, alumni support, tons of resources for student athletes Cons: Salary: This should not be an issue for UNC but Joe was not paid well. Salary will need to increase dramatically I said this in th Michigan thread too, but if you consider it was back in 2018 when the extension happened and the salary was negotiated, the amount doesn't look as bad. I think who the hire and what they offer will tell you what admin investment is in the program moving forward.

So if the Houks come over - would Melani join them to play with her sister - and add another setter to the mix? Nope Mabrey transfers to UMN <3 (my overall health cannot take losing Shaff from MN) The last thing the U of MN needs is another pin hitter! 😆

Just because the Houk's need a job doesn't mean UNC needs the Houk's. For one thing, North Carolina's environment is very different from Minnesota or South Dakota.

From the release... "A national search for the program's next coach will begin immediately. Sagula will remain the program's head coach until a successor is named."
This seems significant to me.
If they were going to name Mike Schall the coach, wouldn't he be interim while HR did its thing? If he were a candidate, wouldn't you make him the interim to see how the players respond, how practice goes, etc?

Seemed like there was a pretty specific succession plan in place to help the a new coach transition in. If Mike was the selection , not sure all of that would be needed. I could be wrong.

As someone who talks to volleyheels11 quite a bit, I can assure you he's not bashing women. In the conversations we've had, I can tell you he's hoping for a woman to take over the program.
