What is a 1/4 white, 1/4 black, 1/4 Hispanic, 1/4 Korean person anymore? what would you say their race is? That's not what protected class means, nor is it how the law functions. "Race" is a protected class, not specific racial groups. Again a topic for other boards, really.

Leave your politics at home, there are volleyball fans in Florida too. If you want to join the political discussion go argue with the left/right extremist crazies over at off the net. It's not "extremist" to comment on the radical changes being carried out in Florida's k-12 and higher education, and their intended effects on universities, professors, students and student-athletes.
Saying nothing is actually saying something, too..."This is fine with me." So is that the message from the NCAA and AVCA?
no. there's no message from the ncaa to avca about this because we're talking about a college volleyball tournament and not the political state of Florida. Whatever is going on in k-12 schooling in florida, im unsure how it is in any way related to who the best college volleyball team is in the country... but make the connection if its there id be interested to hear how on earth these two topics have been brought into the same conversation

And I should add, the OT section isn't help that the troll from Nebraska is aided by his lackey (the poster above). You should complain to the mod, or about the mod. Whichever makes you feel better.

Well, if the mod refuse to do his or her job, not much you can do...except fool with you. All I do with you and holiday is give you a little push, and off you go. You just can't resist it can you? Like a moth to the flame.

With "Don't say gay" and now coming out against advanced placement Black history in schools, there is no way the tourney should be dropping money in Florida or that athletes should have to go there. Quit watching fake news and you’ll be fine.

I tried to read this thread but after page 3 all I could think of was "the lady doth protest too much, methinks".

Why wouldn't they go - the bill isn't racist. Florida HB1557 (aka "Don't Say Gay") is not the only Florida law of relevance here. Florida just today rejected the Advance Placement class on African American Studies, citing a different law (Florida HB7) also pushed by DeSantis. I understand both items. I support them. Others will disagree - there are plenty of Federal and state laws I do not agree with. The key - nothing here is discriminating against a protected class and there is nothing racist here. There is no reason for the NCAA to remove the FF from Florida.

just reminding everyone we wouldn't have women's sports had it not been getting politics involved. thankful for political action that got us women's volleyball. women's sports is inherently political.

It should, perhaps, be noted that the NCAA has set the precedent of withdrawing championship hosting privileges going back to at least 2016, when they pulled seven(!) 2016/2017 championships from North Carolina over that state’s anti-gay law.

Anti-trans, I think. Also, to those nonsensically introducing masks, vaccines, presidents and whatever else into this thread, human rights are not "politics." And there is a growing pattern in Florida.

Thank you, silence is complicit. If you don’t want to discuss this then ignore this thread. It doesn’t take much to scroll by. The people who have a problem are usually the ones that agree with the rhetoric/hate or don’t care how African American athletes feel and what the ask us to support.

The last few pages on this thread seem wholly irrelevant and certainly off topic to the discussion of women's volleyball, in particular government sanctioned women's volleyball (which is 95% of this forum). Electoral College, protected classes etc. etc......take it to the off net board.
To refocus on the original posters point - I don't think it's off limits to call out unfriendly states that the NCAA is forcing volleyball players and us volleyball fans to go to and spend money in. If you don't think it's a problem, that's fine - this is a discussion forum, people are entitled to their own opinions, but people who DO have a problem with it shouldn't be silenced in the context of volleyball. Just because it's a government actor acting inappropriately, shouldn't just automatically mean that it be off limits because it's "politics". When certain volleyball clubs or programs are doing shady things (even in the context of racism....see Josh Taylor @ Missouri, for example), it gets called out here on VT. Why should individual states doing shady things (and what Florida has been doing is shady, "politics" be damned), be excluded from our discourse here? If a discussion of why Tampa shouldn't host the NCAA volleyball final four is not your cup of tea, don't read the thread and don't post!

Sports, especially college sports have been intertwined with politics and social activism since forever. Those that want to silence the conversations are the ones cancelling it.
It seems hypocritical to boycott Florida over this (when if you look hard enough, several states have had equally awful laws in the past). That said as a consumer, I totally support anyone not wanting to travel to Florida.
