This is one of those "just because you can, doesn't mean you should" situations. Is the record really worth it when 3/4 of the people in attendance can't actually see the match? Because that seems dumb....

I just want to say I think this is awesome.
Sometimes it’s not about how good the seats are. It’s simply about being a part of the experience.
I remember before Lew Alcindor’s UCLA played Elvin Hayes’ UH team in the Astrodome, nobody really considered basketball being played in a huge stadium. Gotta start somewhere. Of course, that was indoors. Still, the principle is similar. No better place to try to pull something like this off than the state of Nebraska.
Nothing against Omaha, but I do wish the opponent was a little more prominent, but that’s nit picking a bit. Mostly I’m just glad it’s occurring st all.

Next year, Michigan plays a single set of volleyball in Michigan Stadium during half time of the UM-OSU game and sets a record that literally can’t be broken. Bc that’s where things are now I guess. 😭 I don’t understand what you mean about can never be broken. Stadiums can be expanded. Bigger ones can be built. And there’s always motor speedways. We can argue about how feasible it is to be broken, but “literally can’t be broken” is not the right phrase.

It’s an awesome novelty experience and a showcase for what volleyball means to the state of Nebraska and Husker fans at large. I can’t wait to be a part of it. Bring on the Debbie downers

Does Sheffield say uncle and give it a rest, or does he and Marquette do an American Family Field event (which the Badger basketball teams just did and which has no rain risk). Or does he say that the record isn't important when the viewing experience is ... really bad for most ? And of course UW Marquette, especially in Milwaukee instead of Madison, may not draw nearly as well as Memorial, but it'd be interesting to see how well it would. I really doubt he'd consider Camp Randall. I personally hope he does. We went through this with hockey and the outdoor game frenzy. The first one at Lambeau in 2006 was awesome, partly because it was Lambeau, partly because it was the first, partly because they did the right thing and didn't worry about filling the whole stadium but rather wedged the rink against one end zone, built bleachers on the field, and let half the stadium be empty so the sightlines weren't that bad. But then they did it at Camp Randall and that was mediocre at best. The third one at Soldier Field was cold and windy and we were over it and I'm glad they haven't gone back to that well since. I hope they have fun. And I hope we leave the games inside where they belong.

There need to be some event souvenirs. There are going to be a lot of people wanting to say: "I was there!"

I heard the ice was pretty lousy.)

I guess I am weird. When I go to a volleyball match, I actually want to see the match. Not be part of some "novelty" experience and end up watching (likely nausea-inducing camera work) on a 40' screen because I can't actually see the game I bought tickets for. But to each their own.

Luckily for you, Nebraska plays between 15-20 home games a year in the largest volleyball-centric facility in the country, so you'll have plenty of opportunities to do that this year should you choose to do so. One event game in the middle of the week hardly ruins the Nebraska Volleyball experience for 2023.

Every year the mens basketball Final Four is played in an NFL stadium and sells out. I’m not sure why volleyball would be worse than basketball to view from a distance.

The court is much smaller and action happens in a tighter radius than basketball. There is also more technique and nuance in volleyball that is harder to see from farther away.

I don't think it will ruin the 2023 season. I just find it mildly ridiculous, especially for something that isn't likely to be a super competitive match.

Just an idea, in case the Huskers come up short playing Omaha.
