They once had to cancel an OSU-Marquette "Aircraft carrier" basketball game, because they couldn't get the court dry.

Dang. I like VB because you can sit down low, close to the action, and you don't feel like a sardine. Tell me you've never been to a Nebraska match in Lincoln without telling me you've never been to a Nebraska match in Lincoln.

I'd have to be an Omaha fan if I lived there, hahaha.

Their sold-out streak is based on matches played at their normal arena. It doesn't include matches played at other locations. huskers.com/news/2023/2/24/volleyball-day-in-nebraska-coming-to-memorial-stadium-in-august.aspxThe Husker volleyball program has sold out 303 consecutive regular-season matches, though the Memorial Stadium match would not count toward the streak as it is being played outside the Huskers' main home facility, the Devaney Center. Nebraska's sellout streak is an NCAA women's record. The Huskers have led the nation in attendance every season since moving into the Bob Devaney Sports Center in 2013.LOL. "We only count matches that are sold out when deciding how long our sell-out streak is." love my huskers, but yeah, idk bout that sellout streak sometimes. I was at this match. Great match. Incredible win and effort. But definitely lots of visible, empty seats. s3.us-east-2.amazonaws.com/sidearm.nextgen.sites/huskers.com/documents/2014/12/6/3030307.pdf

My phone won't open this but by looking at the date I'm assuming this is the Utah ncaa game? It was not sold out; also doesn't matter because it's regular season sell outs.

so it isn't actually 303 consecutive regular season matches if they are excluding regular season matches. The streak is for home sellouts. Back in the day they would play at a pre-renovation Devaney that seated 13,000+ and they wouldn't sell that out. It didn't impact their home sellout streak since it wasn't in their home venue. so those are considered "neutral site" matches on their record?

It is indeed the Utah game. I suppose I overlooked the “regular season” bit, so I guess the technicality fits. But it seems paradoxical that an NCAA tournament game for a spot in the Sweet 16 doesn’t count, but a home-opener against TAMU-CC does. I understand the technicality, but who cares if we sellout for TAMU-CC, but are a no show for Utah in the NCAAs. I guess I just don’t get the sellout hype. A bit contrived, imo.

Does Sheffield say uncle and give it a rest, or does he and Marquette do an American Family Field event (which the Badger basketball teams just did and which has no rain risk). Or does he say that the record isn't important when the viewing experience is ... really bad for most ? And of course UW Marquette, especially in Milwaukee instead of Madison, may not draw nearly as well as Memorial, but it'd be interesting to see how well it would. I really doubt he'd consider Camp Randall. Sheffield can always lay claim to the largest indoor record (if they set that next season vs Marquette) I’m not sure if anyone mentioned that there’s a concert afterwards with a “National recording artist”. Sorry but for me, this makes the whole thing look more like a stunt than an event. Having a known and popular recording artist perform ensures you have a sellout crowd. It will be interesting to see how many seats are filled for the game and how many are filled for the concert. journalstar.com/sports/huskers/volleyball/nebraska-volleyball-to-play-match-at-memorial-stadium-in-historic-statewide-celebration-event/article_6c743a27-66c9-5408-bccc-9ffba75104b3.html

To be honest I think they did used to count post-season games in that streak until literally after this game. IIRC I remember that sellout streak number (on that mural in Devaney) being lower in 2015 than it was the previous year (I was at the Utah game and the opening game of 2015). Then they started using "regular season" when they talked about sellout in write-ups.....but I could be wrong and might have imagined it lol.

Still wondering how this can be considered anything but an exhibition match, since it will be outdoors.

Still wondering how this can be considered anything but an exhibition match, since it will be outdoors. there's nothing in the rulebook stating a match has to be indoors. as long as they follow all of the rules re: equipment, layouts, courts, and such
