Does Sheffield say uncle and give it a rest, or does he and Marquette do an American Family Field event (which the Badger basketball teams just did and which has no rain risk). Or does he say that the record isn't important when the viewing experience is ... really bad for most ? And of course UW Marquette, especially in Milwaukee instead of Madison, may not draw nearly as well as Memorial, but it'd be interesting to see how well it would. I really doubt he'd consider Camp Randall. Sheffield can always lay claim to the largest indoor record (if they set that next season vs Marquette) I’m not sure if anyone mentioned that there’s a concert afterwards with a “National recording artist”. Sorry but for me, this makes the whole thing look more like a stunt than an event. Having a known and popular recording artist perform ensures you have a sellout crowd. It will be interesting to see how many seats are filled for the game and how many are filled for the concert. journalstar.com/sports/huskers/volleyball/nebraska-volleyball-to-play-match-at-memorial-stadium-in-historic-statewide-celebration-event/article_6c743a27-66c9-5408-bccc-9ffba75104b3.htmlMeh, the concert isn’t much of a draw without an artist announced. I really hope it’s not Jason Derulo and used as some cross promotional opportunity for the new pro team in Omaha.

Alberts doesn’t appear to trust that volleyball could bring a sufficient crowd. This is a guy who spent the first two months of 2011 sitting down with recruits and their parents, while he was the Athletic Director at UNO, singing the praises of UNO football 🏈 and bragging about facility upgrades and community support for th3 football team. . .and every second he sat with those recruits and their parents he knew the decision to cut the football program at UNO had already been informally agreed to. He waited until March 25 to announce 📣 the football and wrestling programs were cut-this announcement was made while the UNO wrestling team was still on the mats celebrating a national championship win at the 2011 championship tournament that was held in Kearney, Nebraska. Alberts is a smooth talker and no one can deny the the facility upgrades during his time at UNO, and he has put on an air of competence into his dispatching of the football fiasco that was Scott Frost and handling of NIL at Nebraska during his two years as AD at Nebraska, but he is not to be trusted. And his plans for this event verify that. I hope this volleyball event at Memorial Stadium is a grand success, but it is being held a day before the Matt Rhule era beings with the August 31 football game at Minneapolis, so that automatically draws attention away from this volleyball event in the state of Nebraska and takes over fifteen thousand Nebraska fans away from the volleyball-why would anyone do that? If this volleyball event was so important why would you hold it at the same time 90% of Nebraska sports media will be in or on their way to Minneapolis? Why would you want to allow either of these nationally recognized University of Nebraska sports to overshadow each other? As for this record? With the planned concert, who is going to recognize any attendance “record”? Alberts says he understands the state’s obsession with Nebraska volleyball, but this concert event verifies he does not. Eight thousand Nebraskans pack the Devaney for every home volleyball match, without a concert to entice them, and they would come in record smashing numbers to watch a Nebraska volleyball match in August at memorial stadium, but that is not what is going to happen here. The event Alberts set up is two volleyball matches…so that’s what, at least fours hours? Followed by a “concert” for at least another couple hours…so, six hours in total for the “event”…all in August, and August weather in Nebraska can be brutally hot, and Alberts thinks this does have “crash and burn” written all over it? This looks more like an attempt to lure the State Fair back to Lincoln instead of a volleyball event. Not to mention, this “record” he wants will mean nothing. The Nebraska Volleyball 🏐 Fiasco, coming to you in August…. but Jordan Larson will be there and the B1G network will broadcast it…so all is well 🎉 . . . And how many stories will include Alberts and the cognitively challenged governor getting interviewed during the volleyball matches and then both hopping on a private jet to get to Minneapolis in time for the football game? . . . Don’t fool yourselves, this event has very little to do with Nebraska volleyball… it should have been special, it won’t be … more like some kickoff to Alberts senate bid… opppp #smh

TL;DR
Trev deserves criticism for his choices at UNO but saying he doesn’t trust volleyball to draw a crowd is wrong. He was the driving force for this, not Cook. The football game will cannibalize some people but that’s gonna be the difference between 40k and 50k, not the success of the event.

Its capacity is only about 100 more than the capacity of the Kohl Center, in its basketball setup. So if Marquette-Wisconsin beats Florida-Wisconsin at all, it won't be by more than a couple hundred people. (can't "he" already claim largest indoor crowd for a regular season match?)

So late-comers (either those super-delayed by parking hassles, or thise who only care about the concert afterward) don’t get counted.

I assumed it would be a country act. Me too. Just because they are easy to book in Nebraska . (I hate country personally so it would make me less likely to go) But Jason DeRulo is a good idea too. I wish they didn't have the concert at the end. Even though we know it won't be a huge name draw, detractors will always point to the concert at the end and say we cheated.

See, here's the thing. Who TF cares? "Cheated"? Someone has to care about this "record" in order to care that someone cheated to set this "record". It's like, "world's biggest burrito" or whatever. I mean, yay!?, but also, huh?

Stunt-y, but I like it. Sell it out!!
I also want to see teams play a game on an air craft carrier. College BB teams did that once and my reaction, again, was stunt-y but very cool.

I just don’t even read it, tbh I didn't either. I've had that account on mute for years. I just like responding to a wall of text with the simple "I disagree" line. It amuses me.

Dang. I like VB because you can sit down low, close to the action, and you don't feel like a sardine. I don't think I'd like it if I had to sit in the nose bleeds with an "assigned seat" which with my luck would be wedged between two former offensive linemen who had let themselves go since their playing days. There’s a strong chance it could be a pain from a player perspective as well even if they won’t come out and say it publicly. Could absolutely kill any tempo these teams hope to run depending on the sun and wind that day. 13-14ish + mph winds and the match will very likely turn ugly. (It could also be really cool if there’s less than 8 mph winds and low to moderate sunshine) They might as well use the OPTX ball while they’re at it!
