No matter how people are going to criticize Christenson, he is arguably the best setter for USA, Ma'a and Josh is no where near his level, this is the truth, otherwise they can be the starters. Facing Brazil, Ma'a looks like amateur compared with Bruno in almost all aspects, especially setting; People criticize Christenson facing Argentina but forgot De Cecco is the best setter for Olympics 2021.... Please show some respect for De Ceccco. Of course, I did not say Josh is good, defense/blocking are pretty bad compared with Ma'a even if Josh is fully healthy(Ma'a 's blocking touch impressed me facing Bulgaria) So stop criticizing Christenson, if Ma'a or Josh's fans are not satisfied with the back-up setter position, let themselves work hard to get to the starter's position by themselves.
Regarding the fourth outside hitter position, the reason Garret got so much hate is because he is not the level of Olympics/WCH.This is the core reason. Did anybody see he got one point in eight attempts with four errors facing ROC when Speraw benched TJ? And I also do not want to emphasize this is his only point in Olympics. He is the worst attacker in Olympics(this is shown on the best attacker ranking on the website) Regarding WCH, how did everyone feel last WCH when he substituted TJ in facing Poland? Did he score well enough? Did he pass well enough/defend well enough to help the team? Did he even relieve a little bit of pressure from Aaron who need to score 24 points besides passing so many balls? I did not see any. And as someone who has said before, he went to Indonesia the past season, even he himself is not seriously considering boosting his ability, why are people need to take him seriously? I know he works hard, in the training video, and has good attitude, but sports is not all about this, it is about capability, it is about how to use your ability to help the team at difficult times. It is about fulfill your potential to help the team get to the podium. Good attitude is not enough at all, or simply is not needed at all.People criticizing TJ's attitude all the time(I'm OK with his attitude, but I know pretty annoying for someone, I agree), so what? He constantly receive good offers from Polish/Italian clubs and becomes mature year by year. Ultimately, it is about skills, not attitude, not seemingly working very hard in the gym but cannot score points facing opponents and get blocked ^**^% times.
I am sure Speraw wants him to become Priddy at Rio, but he simply cannot, he cannot..he does not reach that level... There is not even one award he has ever earned in his almost-finished volleyball career(per volleybox) while Priddy has so many, so many..
Since Speraw never ever consider developing younger outside hitters for LA, the fourth outside hitter maybe between Cody/Garret. According to France's Olympics squad in 2021, the fourth outside hitter should be a serving substitute with great defense(as a coincidence, this is how USA women's team does also). I suggest Cody/Garret practice serving and defense, although neither of them have big arm and simply cannot serve over 120km/h. It is best to practice serving those weird angles/the sidelines/the space between two outside hitters/the float serve, etc....
The second oppos.. Emmm.... no comment... Good luck Anderson....

Just to clarify wilbur - Kessel is 46 months younger than Muag, so essentially 4 years. He is closer to Ron's/Thomas's age, as he finished college the same year that they did (as we know, Thomas left after his Junior season was complete). He also has shown more upside, and while he isn't playing in Poland/Italy, he is not spending his post-Tokyo time enjoying the Indonesian and Egyptian leagues. ETA: It seems Cody is helping out at Princeton, so Muag it apparently is. PLEASE Speraw, make him the second lib! IF he isnt going to contribute as an OH, or a serving sub, then at least make him useful by being a back row option/replacement for Shoji if god forbid he gets injured.

USA men and women are the best in the world and their players grow up with handpassing. USA Men are best in the world? At what? The men have finished top 3 at Worlds once and the Olympics twice in this century. Nowhere near the storied programs of Brazil, Russia, Italy, and Poland. Solidly a top 8 program, not a top tier. Let’s run the numbers. In this century only, Italy had two Olympic silvers and One WCH title, and they are top tier while US having one Olympic gold, one bronze, one WCH bronze, one World Cup title is not top tier? Poland had two WCH titles, two silvers but Zero Olympic medals (surprised?), and is top tier while US is not? Russia had one Olympic gold, one silver, two bronze; one WCH silver (surprised?); one World Cup title. Brazil is the dominant winner. I’m including World Cup coz it’s still a Major tournament, but since it’s below WCH and Olympics, I’m only counting the title winner. US men is top tier alongside these three teams. You should remove your Xenophile glasses and just look at the facts.

I wish there was a young pin to bring and develop but the cupboard is bare after Thomas, Maug is the best option for this team.
He does play well against some teams, but if our starters are not getting it done against the best teams, all we got paat Thomas is players that can give a little bump for half a set until the starters can go again.
We don't have multiple options that can take down BRA, POL or even ARG when any are at full strength. That is the team we have, but each of the 14 do play a role and make the team better.
I am excited for the team and I think they are playing really well right now. The glass is well over half full in my eyes.

Cody being as old as Ron/Thomas doesn't make him young or give him time to develop into a starter. I am confident in one thing, Speraw is a better coach than me and everyone else on here and knows the team better

When do they usually post the roster? I'll have to watch the games on replay next week because of work 😭. I hope the boys can finally take the gold this time.

I was just looking at the US roster, and it appears most of the US players play professionally in Poland, with a smattering in Türkiye, followed by Russia and Japan/China. I only really watch the Italian league because it’s on Volleyballworld. Why don’t more Americans play in Italy (or at least this past year)?

I only really watch the Italian league because it’s on Volleyballworld. Why don’t more Americans play in Italy (or at least this past year)? Italy in general took a drop in talent this past year due to drop in wages and the newer government tax on sport clubs. China offered big bucks on a shortened season. Next year they will be back to a full length season but I'm not sure you will see big names go there as it's not ideal living. I don't expect many top players and no USA players to go Russia again. Things are so unstable there. Japan can offer a ideal and lucrative situation for players who don't need the high level sharpening competition but very hard to land a spot there. Turkey is up and coming and Poland's support and level of competition within the league has jumped exponentially. Italy may regain the top destination status but players have Manny more options and factors to weigh ....which is a plus.

There are rumors of Thomas Jaeschke playing for Panasonic Panthers in Japan this coming club season, but I'm not sure if it's true. It's an exciting team if true. Panasonic Panthers just recently announced they got Yuji Nishida (from JTEKT) and Tomohiro Yamamoto (from Sakai) of the Japan National Team. That team also has Yamauchi, Otsuka and Larry of the team A National Team.

It would be fun to see Russell v Jaeschke again, and I'm sure the bff's would enjoy being in the same country for their club season once again.

No Ensing? The practice data must not favor him this year because he led usa through most of last year’s VNL

No Ensing? The practice data must not favor him this year because he led usa through most of last year’s VNL Nope. Averill fought through his confidence issues but Ensing just could not nor really connect with Ma'a it seems. Hanes has made strides for sure and is a dangerous serving sub. K. Russell was not the future nor the answer. As with most all here my money 💰 is on Gabi to secure that OPP 2 spot for Paris and on into the future, which has the potential to be a very viable replacement for MA down the road into L.A 2028. Aaron, TJ are locks for OH the next 5 years. I would like to see a few younger players come into the mix sooner than later.

Speraw trying to develop Hanes (just one year before Paris) is pretty confusing...Maybe this cause Ensing to lose confidence? I absolutely agree that if he keeps last year's performance he will be the first back-up oppo for Matt, but this year what happened..

Any secret report from the gym? Of course hope that he can make Paris and help Matt relieve pressure! We need to make sure Aaron, TJ does not get hurt a lot... please... and it seems Speraw does not care about developing younger players...sigh....
