"I mean, would the team's best player playing make a difference?!?!"
Literally, ask any fan of any team and their answer will always be the same. BFFR.

Texas is clearly the worst team in the nation so I don’t know why y’all are so pressed about Texas fans anxiously awaiting the best player in the country’s return, when all she does it get some block touches, according to yall🤣 O'Neal can't improve the passing and floor defense, although she might honestly be a step up. y'all act like every other aspect of Texas' game was spot on but production from the MB. You have no options for OH2 that can pass. Your libero is struggling to handle the larger load. Akana hasn't stepped up. If someone can explain to me how Swindle will get the ball to O'Neal I'm all ears.

I'm confused, outside of Skinner, weren't the passing numbers above 2 for the rest of the team overall?

Asjia’s serve is also WAY tougher than Bella or Molly’s. y’all are making all of these long-term proclamations when we haven’t even seen the lineup Texas will be running come conference play. if you expect a team with new starters at OH, MB x2, S, and L to play well their first game, you’re insane

No, but to say she’s struggling is a stretch 😂

this argument is stupid anyways. there’s like no way Asjia is playing today and why are we making assumptions about how Texas will look the same with her back when we will quite literally get that answer sooner than later

It's pretty obvious that MB is currently an area where we don't have enough depth, with 2 scholarship players injured umm. ok.
Just so you know, I rate teams on a week-to-week basis. If you manage to defeat the Gophers, I will promptly move you back to the top 5 from mid-major.
You do you, bro

You have no options for OH2 that can pass. Your libero is struggling to handle the larger load. Akana hasn't stepped up. If someone can explain to me how Swindle will get the ball to O'Neal I'm all ears. I haven’t been part of this conversation, so I’m unclear on context. I just saw this post. The first thing I’d say is nothing I post is going to affect the outcome, whether O’Neal plays or not. But as a thought exercise, here are some of my responses. O’Neal can improve floor defense. She has way more lateral quickness and accurate anticipation of where to be as a blocker than anyone else on the team, as she showed over the summer for the national team. Having a blocker in the right place at the right time has a tremendous impact on floor defense that goes way beyond getting the actual block or not. Block touches often create a much easier transition opportunity. It creates more tips and roll shots. It creates attacks going out of bounds to avoid the block. It creates more shots in line with where the floor defense is sitting. In addition, O’Neal is remarkable as a back row defender for a middle blocker. Understand I am saying AS a middle blocker. But for the one rotation she serves, it makes a difference for her to be out there rather than Bergmark or Phillips. To say she can’t impact floor defense with her presence is silly. She can and she does. Skinner is about as good at passing as Eggleston was and we won a national championship and made another finals with her as a 6 rotation outside hitter. I don’t see Skinner as a major flaw. They could also move Wenaas to that role, and she is a decent passer. Way better than Franklin or TTA, for example, and i’m not over here worrying about what Wisconsin is going to do with Orzol as a libero. I don’t think Halter is struggling that much, other than there’s an overall sense of confusion on the floor. But IMO that would exist wig Fleck was out there. Something about the coaching staff’s approach changed from last season to this one. Don’t know what it is, but it has created a lot of confusion on the floor that didn’t exist at all at the beginning of last year. That’s not on Halter. She’s going to be just fine. I don’t know about Akana stepping up. I didn’t even realize she was on the floor a lot of the time against LMU. But in rewatching, a lot of the goofy errors Texas was making seemed to be on the opposite side of the floor from where she was, or several times it felt like she was doing too much, like taking the second contact when Swindle was right next to her. That’s not about not stepping up. That’s something else going on. If anything she’s trying too hard to step up rather than trusting her teammates. Swindle is a true freshman. What she is experiencing should not be a surprise to anyone. The only surprise I have is she seems to have regressed from the scrimmages and even the spring. But it’s only two matches. I do not feel like passing is the main issue for Texas the way you seem to. I think there’s a lack of cohesion and everyone understanding their roles. Too many times I’d watch Swindle scramble to make first contact, when a teammate was in better position to make the play, which then put Texas out of system. Too many times I saw a teammate take second contact when Swindle was right there. The thing I’ll say about Texas is that there’s no lack of hustle or effort. Everyone is trying hard. But like several posters commented on, they looked like they were a bunch of strangers playing a pickup game. THAT’S Texas biggest issue. Not missing O’Neal, although unlike you I’m not going to diminish her importance. Probably the biggest thing she brings is the gravitas as the undisputed leader of the team. She’s the one who consistently stepped up last year when the team was playing on their heels somewhat, and did a William Wallace speech to turn things around. She wasn’t always like that, but she is now. Other players might grow into that role the same way O’Neal did, but for right now she’s it. There’s no Fleck or Eggleston, two players who also filled that role last year. I’m honestly not terribly concerned about this Texas team. There’s plenty of talent. I like what I see from Swindle. She just needs more reps and right now she needs to see some success. But she has all the tools. I feel like we’re in good hands over the long haul, but there may be some turbulence ahead in the short term, to the extent the oxygen masks may even drop down. But we’re going to be fine. My big thing is I don’t know what the time horizon for team improvement is going to be, nor how high the ceiling is. But that’s okay. I’m comfortable in not knowing. This team will get better, and I plan on enjoying the season’s journey regardless of where it lands. But the biggest issue to me with Texas by far is players understanding their roles, playing within their lanes while still balling all out, and having trust for one another. That’s the biggest difference I see by far in this Texas team and last year’s, which was remarkably cohesive coming out of the gates. Can O’Neal help with that? I think so. But it doesn’t have to wait for her return to get better. I’d like to see some improvement this week, regardless of the outcome against two extremely high quality opponents.

It's comical how everyone was all over Asjia this summer but now that the season has started and she's back at Texas, she's getting disrespected. Had someone like Strivins had even the slightest amount of success that Asjia had with the national team, they probably would've given her the NPOY before the season even started, but I know some of y'all can't help yourselves when it comes to Texas.

Kendall Kipp played significant minutes for the USNT this summer? shes likely more impactful for Stanford than Asjia is for Texas, but one was on the finals roster of the VNL and the other wasn’t even on the wide roster (and her position is the weakest of all)
