So the NCAA sent out a survey to attendees. One of the questions was what would you prefer next year in terms of date and television, the choices were Sunday on ABC or Saturday on ESPN2. I chose Sunday but in the comments said my strong preference would be Saturday night on ABC. Sunday afternoon volleyball went up against NFL games that garner ~15-25 million viewers. Last Saturday night ABC aired the LA Bowl which garnered 2.2 million viewers. ESPN2 was showing UFC prelims. Why not put volleyball on ABC on Saturday night and kick the LA Bowl to ESPN2? I think volleyball on ABC Saturday night would out draw the LA Bowl. I would think the question for ABC/ESPN is whether the combination of the two would draw significantly more viewers than the "2.2 million" or do they split that number? Also how much of the 2.2 million for the LA Bowl are hard core football fans that would watch any football game before they would watch a women's volleyball match, even the national championship. Just from my years on Texas boards indicates that's not an insignificant number. IMO I think the question is what day/time would draw the most casual volleyball/sports fan? Hardcore volleyball fans and hardcore fans of the schools are most likely going to watch regardless of the day/time.

(im waiting to see the rest of the days numbers/the bowl games on saturday) They really need to push the female audience aspect... I would agree on pushing the female audience aspect. Also raises the question on whether having the match of Sunday is better for attracting more female watchers. I found the 1.7 million overall average vs. the 1.8 million match only average to be interesting. I'm assuming that indicates that a fairly high % of the audience watched the pre-game and/or post-game segments. Would think that indicates a higher level of overall interest in the match. Have you paid enough attention in the past to peak audience vs average audience to indicate if this % difference is about normal, greater than normal, or less than normal? Just wondering about the impact of overall not being a close match.

If I had to make a timeline id assume the 2.1 million was in the first set... carried on... and then drop off in the end of set 2 into 3 and a lot of drop off... the rest of the ratings arent out yet... so nothing for postgame yet

I mean as long as Taylor Swift's boyfriend isn't playing, I think it's a good alternative to NFL football.

So I was curious about what sporting events had more viewers than the final during an NFL window...
(Summary: NASCAR is the only one to do better without an NFL lead in in the same time slot)
12/17 America vs Tigres (Universo) 2.2 million (8pm ET)
12/3 Major League Fishing (CBS) 1.79 million (5pm ET) (had an NFL game lead in of 14.3 million)
11/19 NASCAR (FOX) 2.05 million (4:45 pm ET)... (had an NFL lead in of 18m)
11/12 Gridiron Great (NFL doc) (CBS) 1.76 million (5pm ET) (had an NFL lead in of 16.5m)
11/5 Nascar (NBC) 2.92 million (3:45 pm ET)
10/29 Nascar (NBC) 2.20 million (1:15 pm ET)
10/22 MLB Playoffs (FS1) 4.8 million (8pm ET) NASCAR (NBC) 2.3 million (2:45 pm ET)
10/15 MLB Playoffs (FOX) 7.0 million (8pm ET) NASCAR (NBC): 2.2 million (3pm ET)
10/8 MLB Playoffs (FS1): 2.28 million (8pm ET) NASCAR (NBC): 2.2 million (2:45 pm ET)
10/1 NASCAR (NBC) 2.5 million (2pm ET) Bull Riding (CBS) 1.8 million (5pm ET) (had an NFL lead in of 16.8 million)
9/24 NASCAR (USA) 2.00 million (4pm ET) Bull Riding (CBS) 1.9 million (5pm ET) (NFL lead in of 17.5 million)

the final had more than twice the viewers than the NWSL final had.... despite that having promotion all day on CBS during CFB.... and they just signed a $240 million media deal...
