This is certainly interesting... First reaction to the format change is positive...
Interested to see what the VT community does with this proposal...

who's going first in the draft?!? I have my pick of who should go first but wonder what the teams/cities will decide.
I feel like top2 are obvious

Too much! They're following the MLP model with teams...I think I threw that out here a while back

While we are having fun with teams and introducing a new format, I have always wanted to see teams compete with 2 pairs and toss in the 4s to make it best of three. Keeping the Men’s and Women’s contests separate so more cities can have a team near the top of the standings. While a team can have guys that only play 4s, players are expected to play both with open subs.

Definitely has my interest. Of course we are all skeptical of the $ aspect, and sustainability, but a draft is always very compelling to me. I assume each city has a coach who drafts?

Major League Pickleball, it's really fun. thanks, heard it's fun unfortunately since they swap out tennis courts for pickleball courts at certain courts here in OC
I should probably know this (MLP = Major League Pickleball) since we sponsor Tyson Mcguffin, Anna Bright, and Jill Bravermen

for sponsors, I wonder if a new contract is needed for the "AVP league" or an addendum or no changes at all, I wonder if this is a money play

The significant issue I have with the "team" plan is that it runs from September through November, against football season and NCAA women's indoor volleyball. Beach volleyball is a summer sport. If the team component is to be established, it needs to be done in the prime time for beach volleyball, the summer. The only traditional tournament that needs to be worked around is the Manhattan Beach Open in the third week of August. The Paris Olympics end the week before. Convolute the other events with a bracket format at the beginning and the end of the team schedule for one year. What does it matter in this new dynamic?

First reaction is: huh?
If I understand correctly (doubtful) there will be 1 men's and 1 women's team assigned to a given city. They will then play home matches in that city? (Similar to the NBA or MLB)
So the product fans will be asked to go and see will be their home team(s) playing another city's teams in a two-match event (one men's and one women's)
Then playoffs and a final?
Good parts of this:
The AVP trying to be creative.
Should optimize revenue derived from die hards.
New teams!!! (Draft should be fun, trades, cuts and fighting amongst partners would be nice).
Local facilities may do excellent promotions
Bad parts:
September to November scheduling - MLB playoffs, start of NFL season, start of the NBA and NHL, probably the most sports saturated part of the calendar. (also cold on the East Coast) since I assume many of these matches will be at lighted facilities on weeknights (low 40s in parts of October this year). I am imaging the Texas teams trying to market against MLB, NFL, NBA and high school and college football
Travel/Organization. These teams will all be based where they are now. Won't be in town to do promotions etc. Who is coaching, drafting, whatever?
Short. A night out to see two matches? (one men's and one women's). Unlike tournaments, these duals or whatever you want to call them will often be noncompetitive so of limited interest. This will get worse in weeks with an FIVB (four events in this schedule).
Comparison to actual product. The "Heritage Series" will have a superior level of play due to existing FIVB teams etc. and a superior fan experience. So whatever is done in the Summer you get the AVP version of an A+ product then you have this league with a B-
On another note, the canned quotes from April and Benesh are obnoxious. April promises that a format that specifically limits the number of participants to much less than half of the current format is going to: "grow the sport to create more opportunities for athletes" AVP media continues to be lousy.
