No. The portal never really closes. The “window” we all refer to are two times during the year where a waiver is applied. For 30 days in early December to early January players who enter the portal receive a one time waiver where they’re not required to sit out a year if they transfer. There’s a similar 15 day window at the beginning of summer. Victoria Schmer is a grad student. Grad students receive the waiver anyway, so there’s no point for her to wait for the window to open. We say the portal is “open” because there’s an understanding of what that means, but it does get confusing because the actual operation is different than the literal meaning. I hope that helps. |

Are schools able to offer a scholarship to transfer students before the NCAA season is over or before the portal opens? I'm trying to figure out if Chris Tamas's recent Tweet indicating that a commit was just signed is going to be a transfer or some incoming '24 or '25 prep player. Thanks!
