I hope Lang feeds Amber as much as possible to throw off I.S front line on defense, like she did with LBSU

Wags and her performance will be key for this match as they will need her offense to offset the power of the Cyclone pins. If Hawaii is passing well and Kate can help create some space for Wags, she could be devastating. Wags is the tip queen, but no one can deny that her swings have serious pop. I noticed that as long as Kate/Amber can drive away one blocker away from Wags, that is when she is most effective. She needs to make smarter shots though if there’s two blockers up because it’s a 50/50 chance (being generous) that her tips will drop as a point. Amber needs to keep on being Amber… Caylen and Hams needs to show up. If two ladies are off of their game, we could have a problem but if the play like they were playing Beach, we should have a good chance. Agree 100% |

The Wahine need to track Maya Duckworth, she is Iowa State's main hitter. She is almost BVS like. Both of their outsides are major hitters. Nayeli takes about one less attack per set, but has more kills and a higher hitting percentage. It should be noted Gonzalez just won freshman of the year honors for the Big 12. |

Hawaii fans living in Hawaii: I would get my VPN ready just in case ESPN decides to blackout this game on accident and becomes powerless do anything otherwise. I don't live in Hawaii but... I rely on the uploaded youtube videos, like, 3-12 hours after the end of the live broadcast. |

Can't look at a couple of vids like WahineFan and come up with a definitive analytical report but I did note a couple of things that caught my non-expert eye. I liked the way the IS coach worked with her team after the injury to #13 Wachholz. An injury like that can be so disruptive. The team seems to have good floor defense and keeps the ball off the floor. They also seem to run a little different blocking scheme than other teams by doubling the pin hitters more often. I have no idea what the parameters are for doing so. I have to have a healthy respect for a 5'8" outside hitter (Maya Duckworth) who was picked for the pre-season all-conference team. The other outside (Neyali Gonzalez) is a frosh, tall and can really bring it while playing 6 ro. The middles are ok but don't see any Ambers there.
I expect a competitive match. Have no idea how to evaluate the competition level in both conferences. The BW lower echelon might be inferior but Hawaii, Long Beach, and Santa Barbara would probably be competitive. JMO

Watching Iowa St. play against Cincinnati, wondering how they got into the NCAA Tournament, but LBSU did not.
