So AAU national championship registration opened today so I decided to do my analytics review again this year. For all the data please go here: Boys Nationals 2024Couple of quick observations: * 386 teams signed up after less than 12 hours of sign ups  I am pretty sure that's a record for boys volleyball * It looks like spike and serve will try to play both waves with their teams (I guess they are already there so might as well * 630 volleyball has a lot of teams in their club! Quick update on this after 2 weeks of signups. 704 teams signed up, 29 states represented so far and Canada and China. California leading the way with 183 teams, Illinois is 2nd with 128 teams and then Florida has 91, Wisconsin is 4th with 43 and Ohio 5th with 35 teams! Boys Nationals 2024
Unfortunately USAV nationals only has 44 teams signed up so far so I will be adding them to the spreadsheet later once the numbers are a bit bigger. |

A month into the signups and there are now 880 teams signed up for the AAU nationals and 74 for USAV. Boys Nationals 2024* Added some data around signup changes from last year as this year there is a new Elite division in 15-18U which is skewing the numbers a bit but overall, it's a really good trend for nationals (may hit a 1000 teams) * Also added a comparison 2023 tab which shows the clubs that signed up last year and compared it to this year Game is growing rapidly thank you to all of you for supporting boys' volleyball! |

Almost at the 2 month mark into signups and AAU has 1025 registered teams! Boys Nationals 2024Couple of interesting tidbits: * looks like the 14U age group may be smaller than last year * MVVC, A10 and UNO not signed up yet (this is usually almost 40 teams) * Sports Performance signing up only 2 teams? * 33 states, Canada and Puerto Rico participating; All that work by First Points and volunteers around the country pushing for sanctioning of boys volleyball in high school seems to be paying off! Looks like we are on a right path friends! Thank you to all of you and the clubs and parents for supporting boys volleyball! |

Feb 12th and AAU National Championships has 1126 registered teams!! At this rate just wave 1 alone may be the 2nd biggest boys volleyball tournament ever held Boys Nationals 202434 states represented, unfortunately still no representation from Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Delaware, Iowa, Louisiana (hope to see Bayou Boys there), Maine, Mississippi, Montana, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington, West Virginia, Wyoming - maybe someone will join Thank you again to the clubs, parents and of course players for supporting boys volleyball! |

I need some help: I know a lot people here are coaches, refs, etc. May I ask for analysis of this short 40 sec video clip? What is right, what is wrong, etc. I’m trying to get an anonymous and unbiased opinion. The only fact I can share – the teams there are U14.

You are fishing for a specific response or else you would have shared more of the video. This was obviously the result of something happening earlier in the match. All I can say is, I am sad that two adults (coach and ref) created (assumption on my part) a situation that ruined the end of a match that looked to be competitive between 2 skilled teams. From the short clip I saw, both teams were filled with good players that probably love the sport and look forward to matches like this. Hopefully both adults grow up and behave differently so an avpidable aituagion like this doesn't repeat. |

The setter on the red team did seem to hold the ball a long time before setting it, which resulted in a "caught or thrown" call by the ref. This is a judgment call for the ref to make. My question would be whether the ref consistently applied the rule during the tournament and match. I have noticed an unfortunate trend to let this type of contact go in boy's club tournaments this year. When a team comes across a ref that calls it appropriately, the young setter is surprised and confused by the call as apparently this player and coach were.

The first set was pretty quick, so maybe it started too low on his body and that's why it was called. The second set was straight off the beach court and IMO, should get called 100% of the time in indoor. We saw a lot of sets like that from the younger Puerto Rico teams and from teams where the setter plays a lot of beach. Some refs in club will let it go, others will call it all day long. |

The goal is to ref a safe, fair, fun, efficient match... in that order. The ref failed #2 and #3... but it was an efficient way to move the match along. I want kids to like volleyball and have fun playing it. It is not figure skating, no need to conform to some aesthetic moving target standard |

Thank you all for the honest responses. I'm not going to file that in a court of law. My problem: after the final whistle when the ref came down from the chair, he said loudly " You have to say thank you to your coach"??? He said that at the FACES OF THE PLAYERS!!! It was all about some previous plays that he did or he didn't call and our coach reacted emotionally. OK you have yellow and red cards, you can send the coach out. Why would you punish the players??? A personal observation: The boys didn't even figured out what was going on. They were thinking it was a fair competition.  Next: how one could say that to 14 years old??? I do have video footage but it is irrelevant in this case. The boys practice, go to tournaments and all of a sudden they realize that their work doesn't matter at all because there is a "higher power". What moral we, the adults teach the young generation? We just show them that one can get screwed at any time, no matter what. Thanks again! |
